"What are you doing here, Kaien?" Embry asks, annoyance lacing his voice.
Sam has moved us all inside his house and into his living room. I'm currently sitting on the couch next to a very tense Embry and a very amused Paul. Embry's older brother, Kaien, is sitting across from us in a recliner. The rest of the pack is spread out throughout the room.
A sly smirk crosses Kaien's face as he stares at Embry.
"Can I not come visit my favorite brother?" Kaien asks innocently, the sarcasm thick in his voice.
"I'm your only brother," Embry grumbles.
"All the more reason to visit!" retorts Kaien.
Embry rolls his eyes and slumps back onto the couch. Kaien's eyes slowly drift to me and the smirk on his face widens.
"Oh, and who's this pretty little thing. She belong to you, Em? If not, I may just have to make myself at home," Kaien states cockily, leaning forward in his seat and shooting a wink in my direction.
I feel my face become flushed as I instinctively lean closer to Embry. He lets out a low growl, possessively pulling me onto his lap and securing an arm around me. I feel my blush deepen and turn my face to my lap.
Kaien chuckles and shakes his head at Embry's action. "Pity. I should've known something like her wasn't for sale," he says, almost sounding disappointed.
"Listen here mutt, my sister is not a piece of property," Jared snarls, standing up from his seat and shaking lightly.
"Talk about her like that again and we may just have a problem," Paul adds, standing up next to Jared, trembling a little as well.
Kaien raises his hands defensively, a playful smirk still tugging at his lips. "Woah, fellas. I get the message," Kaien replies, half jokingly.
With a few snarls, and an alpha glare from Sam, my two brothers sit back down. I watch Kaien's every move nervously. Embry snaps out of his wolf mindset and his eyes focus back on me. A dark blush spreads across his cheeks and he loosens his grip on me a little. I smile softly at him and lean my back into his chest.
Something about Kaien just doesn't feel right.
He's like a magnet. I can't help but feel drawn to him. It's like there's something binding us together. It's a weird feeling. Every time our eyes meet, chills shoot up my spine. Every time his lips turn up, I feel the need to smile too. I feel a need for him. But I'm not quite sure what it is yet.
"But, the real reason I'm here is to see you. Well, mostly. I also came to ask Sam if I could be reinstated in the pack," Kaien shrugs before turning his gaze to Sam.
"Reinstated?" I ask shyly.
That means he was in the pack before. But I know for a fact Embry never had a brother. At least, not one that was around. Then again, Embry doesn't really know his father either, so I guess anything is possible. An even more concerning question is how did he leave. You can't just break away from an alpha. Especially not one like Sam.
"But Kaien has never been here before," Seth finishes my thought, confusion trapped in his young features.
"Yes he has," Sam says lowly.
All of our eyes snap to him as he runs a hand down his frustrated face. He looks over to Kaien before shaking his head. I glance at Embry, who has a pained expression covering his features.
"Kaien has always been.. around. He just never made appearances. He was the first to enter the pack, other than myself. We just came to an agreement per say. Things weren't working smoothly for him here," Sam explains.
