Echo-4 Origin: Part 6

"Alright you two! You can come on out now!" Echo said.

Stunned by the fight they just witnessed, Alderam and Iris slowly walked over to him.

"You guys okay?" Echo asked them.

Iris and Alderam nodded their heads still in shock.

But Iris broke the silence with a question, "How come those fallen had different colors?" Iris asked.

Isabel appeared from behind Echo, "Those are the fallen from the House Winter, they're mainly scavengers just like the Devils on Earth but are still not to be taken lightly."

"Yeah you got that right," Echo said agreeing, "but there are worse things on Venus. Let's just be glad that the first thing we ran into here was just the fallen."

Together they ventured further into the ruined city. Coming up onto an area with an old statue, "Alright guys we've been tasked with collecting information from the N/Gen branch or something in the Ishtar academy so it should be nice and easy today." As they approached the entrance of the main building Echo noticed something strange. "Isabel, aren't there normally fallen here?"

"Yes...but my scans aren't picking up anything, I'd be cautious going in."

Iris and Alderam started to get nervous as they all ventured inside. "Echo are you sure about this?" Iris asked him.

"I'm sure they've just gone further inside the building nothing to worry about," Echo replied going up steps to the entrance of the building.

Echo took point walking down into a tunnel leading to a flooded area of the Ishtar academy. As they all waded through the water Alderam could've sworn he heard gunshots for a second but brushed it off as an afterthought. As they entered the Ishtar academy they were greeted by another large statue in the middle of what looked like to be a library. Echo surveyed the area looking for any fallen hiding around but he found nothing, he was starting to get worried. Iris was slowly looking around when she tripped on something, it was some sort of arm but it looked robotic, "Hey Echo! I think I found something."

Echo hurried over to see what it was and slowly picked it up, "Isabel, is this what I think it is?"

Isabel appeared beside him and scanned the arm, "Yeah that's a vex arm alright."

"Vex?" Alderam asked.

Echo looked at him, "remember when I told you there were worse things then the fallen on Venus?"

Just then they could hear a fallen captain scream further in the academy.

"W-We're not going that way right?" Alderam asked.

Echo patted Alderam's shoulder and began to walk towards the noise.

Iris went over to Alderam, "C'mon it won't be so bad."

Alderam sighed, "I hope so." Together they both ran to catch up with Echo.

Echo walked down the ruined hallway of the academy and came across an opening into a courtyard of sorts, but to his surprise there was a crashed fallen skiff sitting in the middle of it.

"Well that wasn't here before," Echo said to himself. Scanning the area he could see multiple dead fallen all around the place, including that captain they heard earlier, all of them had plasma burns on their bodies still glowing a faint red.

Iris and Alderam ran around the corner finally catching up with him.

"Whoa, what's that?" Iris asked Echo.

"It's a fallen skiff, must've crashed here recently." Echo walked up to the crash site and examined the dead fallen bodies littered across the ground. "From what I can tell by their injuries it looks like they survived the initial crash."

"How can you tell?" Alderam asked.

"You see the plasma scarring all over their bodies? You don't just get those from a crashing ship, they must've gotten attacked and I'm sure you can guess from what." Echo responded.

Slowly Echo walked away from the skiff quietly scanning the area with Iris and Alderam following close behind. It was eerily silent as they walked past more bodies of dead fallen, the only noise being their footsteps as they walked through puddles dotted around the ground, slowly but surely they managed to make their way inside a building and found the N/Gen branch.
