"Desire is the kind of thing that

eats you

and

leaves you starving."

Kylo

I waited for a few moments and then the tiny blue form of Hakeem Davao appeared on the holoprojector.

"Kylo," he said, as I turned up the audio.

"Hakeem," I said in reply. "I've got our mission report."

"I'm listening."

I told him about our meeting with the Geonosians and how they seemed open to helping us but at the same time reluctant to promise anything. I also told him about how they seemed fearful of what the Syndicate could do to their society which in a sense, was still young.

When I finished speaking Hakeem was silent while he stroked his chin. I waited.

"Do you think The Syndicate could've gotten to them first?" he asked.

"I don't think so," I replied. "If Corrine had sent someone to them first then they would either have joined them, in which case they wouldn't have taken the meeting with us, or refused to join them in which case they would be more eager to form an alliance with us for their own protection."

"Yes," he replied, "That makes sense."

There was a pause. I wondered if I had sounded too familiar when I said my sister's name.

"So your meeting with the High Commander is in the morning?" he asked.

I nodded. His blue form unfolded and refolded its arms.

"I thought they would do that. By the way, how's Rey?"

"Uh, she's fine," I said quickly, hoping that he would move on to another topic but knowing, from the way that he asked, that he wouldn't.

"That's great, its just Ertra wanted to know," he paused, then went on, "Have you two been uh, getting along?"

I could tell that he was just as curious about the situation as Ertra was. Hesitant to tell him that Rey and I had gotten into an argument which had resulted in her slapping me across on the face I said,

"Well, we haven't really spoken much. Things are...okay, I guess. I doubt the Geonosians noticed anything," I added quickly, remembering how, when we had been preparing for the mission, he'd emphasised on presenting a united front.

Hakeem nodded.

"Very well," he said. "Make sure you go over your talking strategy for tomorrow, it may well turn into a negotiation. Let me know how it goes."

"I will. Goodnight," I replied.

"Goodnight."

Hakeem vanished from the holoprojector and immediately the lighting in the room returned to the soft amber colour emitting from the chandelier. I knew what I had to do but was reluctant to do it.

I left my chamber and walked down the hallway, pausing outside each door to try and sense Rey inside. I could not remember what room she was in. After checking about six different doors I still could not sense her anywhere. Finally, I knocked on the one I hoped was hers.

The door opened a mole-like creature with matted fur and a long snout poked its head out. A blue nightshirt and trousers covered it and it had two pairs of yellow eyes that glared at me in annoyance.
