My face scrunched in confusion, "Why would the Dawn be so hidden from the pack?"
"The Dawn?" he echoed.
"The birthing building," I rolled my eyes at the hollow name.
"That is not this building." He continued his march, heading straight towards the water it seemed. "Where are you going?" he looked prepared to go for a swim.
"We must cleanse ourselves of the scents when before Alpha." His tone was dull as if I should've known this already.
Turning the idea over, I almost agreed, I must smell bad from the days journey. Ready to follow suit, I stopped.
"Wait, I don't want to lose their scents. It's all I have left of them." I could feel my bottom lip tremble and my hands shake. I clasped my hands and bit my lip to hide the emotions that wanted to pour out.
"That is not what the Alpha wishes."
"It's what I wish."
"So be it." His tone neglected interest. He veered to go around the lake in a lengthy walk. Once we reached the log cabin, he knocked once on the door. Hard and precise.
"Enter."
One word spoken with authority echoed, settling into my bones. The man pushed the door open and it swung smoothly on the hinges, it's weight seemed nonexistent.
A sweet scent of honey and pine lingered in the air. My heart fluttered, the pain wasn't so load bearing anymore.
My eyes immediately zeroed in on the light fixtures that hung from the high ceiling. It wasn't too high that the room felt huge, just high enough to move freely in the space.
The heat spewing from the fireplace warmed me up instantly. Turning to the left was the living room, all open space. A dark suade couch sat in the middle of the room. A matching black, glass coffee table stood in front of the couch on a black fur. That was a big bear.
A white fur draped over the back of the couch contrasted nicely with the black suade. Miniature pink socks were strewn on the cushion, marking the recent presence of a special girl. The black love seat next to the couch shared a matching white fur on its back.
Small end tables of wood filled the spaces between the couches. Thick candles rested on the tables, no lamps. More into the room was an entire wall of books ranging from fiction to nonfiction. Thousands of books on several shelves ignited a giddy feeling to scan each word from beginning to end.
My hands itch to pull down a book and read through the pages instantly, to smell the scent of an old book and relive the stories it has to tell. I could spend hours here.
A steaming cup of tea on the side table to slowly sip away the cold. My feet tucked under me on the suade couch with the white fur draped over my legs, leaving this wretched world to delve into another. Forget what I can't remember and live in someone else's shoes all day long.
The book wall met the corner and continued on the whole back wall of the cabin to the other side. On my lips was a small smile.
Going back to the entrance, I scoped out more of the cabin. To the left of the front door was the kitchen. It was spacious and glorious.
The light cabinets matched the wood of the cabin walls, topped with a dark marble counter. Grey streaks laced the countertops and all black appliances littered the kitchen.
Centered was an island with two stools while above the sink was a small pane window. The smallest of aloe plants lived in a tiny pot on the window ledge. The floor was tiled black in the kitchen rather than the glossy hardwood throughout the rest of the cabin.
