I could hear an abundance of yelling, I wasn't awake yet but I was aware of my surroundings, there were men screaming at what sounded at a young women in protest. I could feel a slight chill running up my spine and cool flakes fall and melt on my skin, was I still outside?
I struggled to open my eyes but I could see the one standing over me was Alisa, there were a dozen soldiers standing in front of her with weapons drawn, where they going to try and hurt her? No, not while I am still breathing, I struggled through an intense pain in my stomach and slowly stood, I don't care if these men are allies, if they do anything to Alisa I'll rip their fucking throats out!
"D-Dante what are you doing? Get down now!" Alisa attempted to make me sit on the ground again but was futile in her attempt.
"That damn thing is going to kill us! If you don't move we'll cut you down along with him!" The soldiers threat was beginning to make my blood boil.
I pushed forward, ready to fight to the death, but Alisa kept her hands on my chest, her gentle touch keeping me in place.
"Please listen." The young girl pleaded for our allies ears in hopes of saving us both, "He isn't going to hurt us please believe me."
Alisa's words weren't getting through these men, they were acting on fear and instinct, we had no choice but to fight.
"Alright that's enough out of all of you!"
The director had stepped in between us and gave the men a stern look.
"But sir, he's a monster, and he needs to be killed! I know you saw what happened to him during the first attack!" The groups leader was making a protest before silenced by the director.
"What you all saw earlier was the act of a malevolent spirt possessing Sgt. Nightroad while he was in a weakened state, but thanks to Pvt. Battle he was able to return to us, isn't that right?"
The director gave us a serious look before replacing it with a small smile.
"Y-yes sir, that's right" Alisa quickly caught on to what he was doing and answered with a serious tone.
"Now" the director said while looking at the group, "return to you're quarters and rest, exhaustion has clouded you're judgment and you all need sleep."
With that the men dispersed and went their separate ways, the director turned towards us and gave us a sheepish smile.
"Well that was close, ok Miss Battle you can leave now, I'll take Dante to get patched up, and to get him a shirt, come my friend."
The director began walking me towards the infirmary before Alisa caught up to the us and began demanding some answers from the director.
"Sir but what about Lust and the giant hole in the wall? And what about the demons outside the gate? We can't just act like that mess didn't happen!"
The director looked down to the short teen and gave her a kind look. "Miss Battle things are under control, we will have the defense squad surrounding the wall along with a repair team here in a few minutes, we are also sending out the recon unit to Scout for demons, you are to go and rest, and wait for orders in the morning."
Alisa was no longer giving the man an angry look and now had a face of reassurance.
"Oh and also" the man had continued, "thank you for looking out for Dante, I am sure he must mean a lot to you."
The man put a lot of emphasis on those last words and chuckled at the girl blushing and giving him an irritated look. The rest of the walk was a blur, I am not sure if I was just extremely dazed or if I had blacked out, in what felt like a minute after Alisa and the directors conversation I was lying in a hospital bed.
I don't remember much of what was going on, my vision blurred and I would be pulled into darkness before waking up to the same constant sound of chatter and beeping of machines. In what felt like an eternity I felt a jolt go through my body, my muscles would contract and my heart would speed up.
What in the hell was going on, what were these jolts? I didn't get to figure it out as it stopped a while after, I was met with the familiar darkness agian. I couldn't feel myself breath, it was as if my lungs were shut in a vice grip and refusing oxygen. My body was going numb and soon I lost all feeling, I felt like I was falling slowly down in into a bottomless abyss. I wasn't going to refuse it, I was so tired that I didn't care where I fell, until I heard a voice.
"Get up" it said. "Get up now!"
The voice sounded familiar, I recognized the tone, the soothing sound of how the words escaped those invisible lips. I felt my body return to me, my eyes shot open and I threw my self into a sitting position.
I was inside an operating room, it was dimly lit and held a scent that was a mixture of medicine and the coppery smell of blood. I looked down to see my wound was closed, I had blood splattered on my chest, there was also some on my arms from ripping off the I.V.'s when I sat up.
While I was taking in my surroundings two girls ran into the room, it was Alisha wearing a surgical suit splattered in blood, and an exhausted looking Alisa. The two stood there speechless as if they saw a corpse rise from its slumber.
Alisa slowley walked towards me, her lips quivering and on the verge of tears.
"Y-you're not dead.....you're alive!" The girl grasped my hand and laid a gentle hand on my chest as if to convince herself what she saw was reality.
"Uh yeah I am alive, why wouldn't I be?" There reactions boggled my mind, they looked as if they just saw someone die.
"Alisha said you're heart stopped, a-and they couldn't do anything to-to..."
The girl was chocking back tears and trying to continue her sentence.
Alisha walked over to us and stood behind Alisa with a sincere smile spread across her face.
"You're a lucky man Sgt. You had us worried for a second, when you're heart stopped we thought it was all over for you, Alisa was the first I told outside the room, we both thought you were a goner, guess we should have known better."
Wait we're they actually saying I had died? Well I guess that does make me lucky since I was able to come back.
Alisha walked out the room and left me alone with Alisa. The girl was still sobbing slightly into my hand.
"Listen Master, I am here, I am alright so stop with the tears."
Why was she acting this way? I shouldn't mean a damn thing to her, hell I couldn't even remember her face after we were attacked, she shouldn't be shedding tears over me.
"I-I just thought you....were gone." She whispered into my arm, barely audible.
If someone cares this much over scum like me, then I guess I am pretty damn lucky.
