I sunk into the couch and did my homework silently.
"Speaking of which, I've got to call her right now." She said.
I secretly rolled my eyes. Dad was gone getting Ari. It was just me and the target.
"If we stay you wouldn't have to take off work." I pleaded.
She held her hand up in a mouth shut gesture. Grandma Lisa had answered the phone.
"Really? Okay. Is that so." Mom said at various points in the conversation.
If it was what it sounded like, she wasn't going to be able to take us in.
"What happened?" I said, trying to sound like I wanted to go.
"She's in Hawaii for the winter." She replied.
"So we can't go?" I said.
"Call Chris please."
YES!
I thought about it further for a second though.
"She's going to Hawaii???" I nearly screamed in question.
"Guesss she's not so boring after all." Mom smirked.
Maybe she wasn't, but I still got to stay so I didn't care. Queen Knitty is just full of surprises.

(That Following Day After School)
"We get to stay with you for a month." I said excitedly.
"I know, we're going to have so much fun." Chris smiled.
We walked towards her car. It was freezing outside so we walked fast.
"Do your parents want me to pick up Ari too." Chris asked.
"Nooo you're already doing too much for us."
"Please, you would do the same thing."
"Probably not."
"Oh thanks for telling me. I'll help you pack your bags." Chris laughed.
"Seriously though, we would have to wait anyway, she doesn't get out for another hour."
"I've got time to kill."
"My mom picks her up after she gets off."
"Well lets beat her to it."
I remained silent for a while.
"Don't worry about it Alex." Chris said, "I'm only doing it from the care in my heart, I have no problem."
"Really?" I said.
"Best Friends Forever."
"Ughhh."
"Let's kill some time at Steven's."
"Sure."
We drove out of the parking lot slowly. The couple blocks we had to drive seemed useless for a car.
"Why didn't your grandma take you in anyway?" Chris asked.
"She went to Hawaii." I replied.
"Isn't she 85."
"Yeah."
"I'm telling you you've got her all wrong, she's living a double life. I bet she's funner then you."
"Probably, she doesn't let us go into the back room."
"I wish I was like that when I get that age."
