Beat......Beat......Beat

My heart rate slowed down. If it slowed anymore I am sure I would be dead.

I ran down the stairs.

"CHRIS!" I screamed. I ran out the house. I don't know what I though, I guess I was going to run the way there.

"Alexia!" my dad screamed after me.

It was my fault.

I ran with my bare feet slapping the pavement. A pure rush of adrenaline had taken over me. I had to get to her no matter what. As I made it to the stop sign nearly catching asthma a motorcycle sounded heading towards me.

It was Jerry.

"Hop on!" he said.

I jumped on and held onto his chest, resting my chin on his back. He zoomed off as my dad ran after me.

God please say she was alright.

He drove the fastest I knew anyone could drive. We arrived in front of the hospital within minutes on a half an hour long drive.

"Come on!" I screamed.

We both jumped off the bike with one rush.

The hospital was bustling with patients, doctors, and nurses. The woman at the front desk seemed to be the only calm one.

"Christina Davidson!" Me and Jerry yelled.

"One second please." she said.

"Hurry the fuck up!" Jerry said.

"403 Third floor." she said.

With that little information we ran to the elevator.

"Family on-" she called.

It was too late. We were both on the elevator tapping the ground with our feet.

"Come on come on." I said.

2...3...

The doors opened. We both ran out I ran first.

399...400...401...402...403

"Christina!" I said.

The sight was horrible. Bloody cloth wrapped around her mangled body. Tears fell from my eyes looking at it. She had a cast on her right arm and her left leg.

The only eye that wasn't wrapped up was scared and barely open. Jerry puched a wall behind me as I walked up to her.

"Chris?" I said.

She had a faint smile.

"In the flesh." she said.

I completely let myself go with tears as I sat in the chair next to her.

"I'm so sorry-y-y-y" I sobbed, "You were right."

"Tell me something I don't know."

"It's all my fault. I want-t-t to kill my-y-self."

She looked at me with a straight face.

"Why the hell are you crying?"

I was so surprised the tears ceased for a while.

"It's my fault."

"Yeah, but my brakes would have went out anyway."

My tears began to creep back up. She grabbed my hand.

"Listen, I've known you since second grade. I've been through a million failed tests, a failed plan to ruin my dress, two stuck up bitches, and a infinite amount of mood swings. It's going to take alot to make me hate you."

Her voice was coarse and scratchy. I wanted her to stop talking but she continued.

"But I-" I began.

"Remember the first time we met at our hill?" she said.

I smiled.

"Yeah, it was pouring down." I said.

"And your brother threw you doll up there earlier on so we went to get it."

"Yeah, and we got so wet we just decided to dance around getting soaked."

Tears finally reappeared. She grabbed my hand tightly.

"Those our the only memories that I care about."

Her voice grew weaker.

"Don't say that you're gonna be alright. You're gonna-"

"Hey."

"..."

"No matter what we'll always be..."

Her breathing slowed.

"Best Friends Forever."

It stopped. The flat line rang on.

I stood up as tears ran out of my eyes. Jerry wrapped his arms around me as he cried along. We both walked out of the room as doctors ran in.

I thought of the day that Chris came up with that stupid saying. She had stayed in her house for a week reading. Then when she emerged she said it.

I smiled and said with a whisper.

"Best Friends Forever."
