The applause continued as we raised ourselves back up. Roses had began painting the floor below us. I could barley believe what was happening. The girl who was in Drama club just to be by her crush. Now she was getting a standing ovation. Completely unreal. We held hands walking off the stage to the back exit. Of course the hand holding was part of the showbiz stuff, because he let go once we were hidden behind the curtains.
"You have a little sister right?" he said.
"Yeah, Ariana." I replied.
"Blonde hair, around 5 foot 2?" he continued.
"That's her." I said.
He let out a little chuckle. I simply wondered what was funny about my sister dating his brother, but I let his cute laugh save him.
"It's sort of ironic." he said.
"What?" I asked.
"How the Hallaway girls always attract the Anderson boys."
I was more puzzled then than before.
"Huh???"
"I like you too."
God if this was a dream please let me comatose.
"I've liked you since day one." he continued, "Then after kissing you in the play, feeling that connection we had through the acting, I knew I couldn't wait anymore."
I waited with anticipation. While having a little shoot myself in the head this isn't real feeling.
"Alexia Hallaway will you go on a date with me?" he said.
The heart pound I'd experienced on stage came back. I could barely speak. The years i sat in the shadows had passed. Finnick Anderson the guy I stalked online, and could make me lose my breath with one look, asked me out. How was I supposed to play it off, cool, geeky, normal.....
"Sure." I said not controlling myself.
I guess cool won.
"Great, I'll pick you up on Friday." he said.
I tried to alert him of my temporary change of address.
"I live with-" I began
"Christina, I already know."
He walked away. Speechless was the only word close to my feeling. This was not real, the tiniest bit. I walked off the backstage to meet up with everyone.
"You were fucking awesome." Chris said.
"I thought you knew dat knew dat." I laughed.
"You were sooo spectacular." Mrs. Davidson said.
I learned from that I had to be could. Chris's mom was in the Jaws movie remake. So hearing I was spectacular from her honestly surprised me.
"Thank you." I said.
Tons of others gathered into the cramped little space between the seats and the wall of the stage room. All complimenting me. And fuck was it annoying. All i wanted to do was get out, but every chance I got I had to sign another boob. (Not literally) To be perfectly honest however it was cool. I kind of loved the attention. You know, I was the star actress at the moment.
Finnick asking me out was a ton more of icing on the cake. We walked out into the freezing cold weather. The glistening snow covered the ground. As we walked the frosty wind bit our noses.
"It is so cold!" Chris nearly yelled.
"I know." I said flipping my jacket collar up.
"You guys driving home together?" Mr. Davidson said.
"Yeah." Chris said.
"Be safe." my mom jumped in.
"Okay." I replied.
We both walked to the near back of the parking lot, what felt like a mile long walk. My toes had frostbite for sure. The inside heat while scarce was beautiful. When Chris turned the heat fully on, I was in heaven.
Without any waiting time to drive off I released my happiness.
"It happened." I said.
"What?" Chris said.
"It fucking happened!" I said.
I could feel she realized something. Her mouth began to open wide.
"No." she said.
"Yes." I said.
"You're a fucking liar."
"And your the Queen of France bitch."
"Woooooo!"
"I know."
"Hopefully you'll stop stalking him so much now."
"Wow."
"Anyway what did he say?"
"It was so romantic." I began, "He said he's liked me for a long time, and we had a connection, and all that stuff."
"Yeahhh. That is what I'm talking about. What day are you guys going out?"
"Friday."
"No way me and Jerry are going to the movies then, we should double date."
"Alright, sure."
Chris pulled over at the red light on main street.
"We should celebrate." she said.
We went to laser tag.... Quite a celebration right.
