Zeke’s P.O.V.

Day of the Funeral

It was the day of Grandma’s funeral and I was standing in my room looking in the mirror seeing a total stranger looking at me.

The eyes of emptiness, emotionless, just empty.

“Zeke, you ready?” my cousins Dawn ask through the bathroom door. Dawn was my Uncle Drew’s daughter and her twin was Dusk. They are fraternal twins. They’re also two years older than me. Go figure huh!

“Yeah I just need a moment,” my voice didn’t even sound like me, it sound foreign. I took one last look at my reflection. My hair was comb neatly, no tangles, my green eyes looking as the same as before, emotionless and I was my best suit. Which was a plain black; black tie and black shoes and even the socks were black. The only color was the dress shirt.

I walk out of the bathroom to see Dawn standing in the hallway with Dusk beside her. My other Cousin Rayne was standing there too. She’s my aunt Storm’s daughter. She’s a year younger than me. I was about to walk towards them that was until I was knocked over by someone jumping on my back, which resulted with me landing face first and the air being squashed out of me.

“What....the.....heck....” all I could manage to say with what little air I could get.

“Oh, I’m so sorry Evan!” a little voice squeaked and got off me. I know who that is. The only person who calls me and everyone by their middle names is Cloud.

“It’s alright C.J,” I got and caught some of my breathing. He goes by C.J because other kids pick on him about his name.  He’s only a freshman fifteen years old and he already knows he’s bi. Weird? No, Good.

“Well we better get downstairs before mom has spaz attack,” Marcus said before turning to go downstairs.

After very much difficulty of who is going whose car. We were finally all in a vehicle. I was riding with the twins, Rayne and C.J. We were all here except Lennox. He’s the oldest out of all of us. He’s also the only one who was sent to juvie/jail from our family that is. Wait a minute better make that two are missing, Lennox and Sage. The second oldest, let’s just say the only time anyone sees Sage is when he’s in trouble or when he needs money for his fix. I would tell you more about them, but I don’t really know anything about them except stories I’m told.

But I can tell you that Lennox is Dawn and Dusk’s older brother, while Sage is Rayne and Cloud’s older brother.

We finally pulled up the church. Everyone that knew or was related to grandma was here. I don’t think I belong here anymore. Sure she’s my grandma, but to what extent. My dad doesn’t even know she’s gone or that my mom died when I was only eight. I have no one.

Someone tapped on the window to where I was sitting. I was in my own little world, but I wasn’t really there. I was looking at myself from outside the car, while Dusk tapped on the window to get my attention.

He open the car door after the third attempt. He was shaking me and looked at as if he was yelling at me to snap out of it.

Next thing I know I’m standing in front of Dusk with a stinging left cheek. Did he just...? I lift my head to see the he had worried look in his pale green eyes. They were almost like cat eyes.

“Did you just hit me?”

“No, I slapped you, there’s a big difference between punching and slapping,” he still had his hands my shoulder.
