"Alright, well, what do you want?" I asked pulling out my wallet.
"Um, I don't know what they even have..." Grian shrugged, now looking at the menu.
I ignored his lies and awkwardness, I debated it over my head, we're friends, nothing more. The menu at Starbucks never helps, it's all a foreign language to people who don't drink coffee.
"I'll get you something. Do you want something chocolatey?" I asked the confused Grian.
"Yes, I'm definitely a chocolate person." He said excitedly.
"Of course you're a chocolate." I mumbled quietly snickering.
I'm more of a actual coffee and vanilla person myself, something just told me he'd want chocolate. Eventually we got to order, I got him a triple chocolate frappe. We got or drink quicker than we got to order, you could tell the airport had actual professionals making the coffee. However, they did something that they don't do anywhere else, they give you the straws themselves. That's fine and all, but when I grabbed ours, they gave us two straws. I was embarrassed but it would pointless to say anything, it's just an extra straw. I turned around and gave it to Grian, he didn't notice the straws because he was looking at the drink, once his eyes made it to the whipped cream, he realized.
"Um, Mumbo?" His face slightly flushed.
"Oh, that, yeah. They accidentally gave you an extra." I played it off.
"Oh this is really good!" He exclaimed as we started to walk all the way down to our boarding area.
"Yeah? I knew you would like it-" I was cut off by Grian gesturing me to try it.
"Have you ever had it before?" He asked like a puppy.
I chuckled, how could I resist the request. I took a sip from the other straw.
"Wow, it is really good." I say, pretending I've never had it before.
I grab my straw out and throw it away, the rest of the drink is all his. We walked quickly, and even faster whenever our plane started boarding. It was fine, we were at the back of the line though. Something hit me, I didn't realize until now, I looked at our tickets.
"We have first-class tickets?!" I asked Grian.
"Well this trip wasn't cheap." He said laughing.
I guess it just occurred to me, Grian really wanted this trip to be special between him Taurtis... Why do I feel like a home wrecker? Is it my fault they broke up? I just wanted to help Grian and, I think I only made it worse. Grian, I'm so sorry... This trip was supposed to be special for you and Taurtis, and I ruined you two. A wave of realization and sadness hit me, what did I do? And why am I just now thinking of the possibility that Grian really cared about Taurtis?! They were dating, of course he cared.
"God I'm such an idiot." I said face-palming.
"Jeez, it's not that big of a deal." Grian said questioning me.
I stared at him a bit, despite what I've done to him, he looks happy... I guess sub-consciously I went on this trip to help Grian, I was guilty all this time, this is me making it up to him.
I smiled, "Let's have the best vacation ever."
Grian noticed my shift and just awkwardly handed his ticket to the airplane attendant. Was that weird? Sorry. She quickly pointed him in the direction of the entrance tunnel to the plane and grabbed my ticket, then pointed me the same direction. I followed behind Grian, heading to board the plane. The plane was almost full, so I was more then happy to not have to sit with the crowded normal passengers section. The first class was as expected, no kids and large families, just business people wanting to sleep. The plane itself was actually quite small, having our jobs we can take breaks whenever, so it was quite inclusive being at a weird time.
We sat down and got situated, the seats were more comfortable than my bed. Grian gave me the window seat, being he has travelled more than me. Since we took so long to get on, we didn't have to wait to get moving. They flight attendants caught our attention and made us watch the instructional video as usual, the plane moved as the video played. Those videos always creeped me out, something about them, describing a bad situation. Honestly they're scarier then the flight itself, it's not that complicated to put on a oxygen mask. Grian was just bored staring blankly at the video, he glanced at me whenever I looked at him. We both simultaneously looked away from each other, but I glanced back curiously. He was a little red, seriously? I am annoyed, why? Because there is no reason to be embarrassed by a stupid stare for like .01 milliseconds. I watched the ending of the video angrily.
The intercom beeped, followed by the Captains voice, "Good morning everyone. Today is quite cloudy here but is smooth sailing once we are out of Europe. We are landing in the sunny Bahamas, I'll see you there." the intercom beeped again once he was finished.
"Would you gentlemen like anything to drink or eat?" A flight attendant asked us politely.
"Just water, please." Grian said, he had to throw away his Starbucks, they don't allow drinks on the plane unless it's given by them.
"Me too." I added.
The young girl handed us our water, "You guys are so lucky, I wish my husband took me to the Bahamas for my honeymoon." She said smiling and walking away.
I was shocked, Grian was once again red in the face, this time more vibrant. The lady was long gone before I could correct her, and the plane started picking up speed. I turned and looked out the window defiantly, what is with everyone? Do we really look that much like a couple?
