I'm Thomas but my friends call me Tommy. The thing is...I don't have friends...so they don't. Right now...my life really sucks. Why? Because I am standing outside my high school on a Saturday. It was drizzling outside and not to mention...it was also morning. This is the absolute last place that I wanted to be on the start of the weekend. And every other Saturday until I graduate. It's crazy. You try to defend yourself from being bullied and you get thrown into detention for the rest of the school year. I don't think that's right. After all, what I did wasn't that bad. Okay...so I might have kicked Ty Fleming in the face. But it's not like I broke his neck or spine! Besides...that's nothing compared to what I've been through. I let out a sigh walking into the hallway of the high school in front of Kimberly Hart, former Queen Bee of Angel Grove High. Whose face was currently buried behind the screen of her iPhone. I walked passed another screw-up of Angel Grove High...the star quarterback, Jason Scott. It amazes me how one stupid thing can ruin someone's life. Jason glanced at me and offered a wave. I returned the wave as I continued walking to detention.
I finally arrived at detention and walked down the steps of the detention room. There were kids everywhere surprisingly and some I didn't expect to be there. I reached the foot of the steps and slumped into a chair in front of Billy Cranston working on a map of something. Billy's a nice guy. He's also really smart in almost everything he does. He's just not good with socializing. I glanced behind me only to watch Billy get knocked in the back of his right shoulder. The impact made Billy's arm jerk forward making the neatly organized colored pencils spill onto the floor. Billy looked up at the bully. "I'm sorry." The bully said leaning down and picking up a pencil. "Here, let me help you." He added handing Billy the pencil. Billy went to grab it but the kid pulled away. "You're a freak. You know that? I've had to watch you play with these for weeks. Are you crazy? No? What if you had an extra one?" The kid said snapping the pencil in two, dropping the broken pieces to the floor. "Why don't you cut this little act and do something? Why don't you stop me? Huh? Are you gonna--" The kid said before he was shoved away from Billy. "Hey!" A voice announced. I looked over to see Jason behind the bully. "How old are you? Five?" Jason asked him. "Hi, I'm Jason. It's my first time here. It's exciting. And you must be the bully of detention. How dumb can you be?" Jason said with a smile. The bully swung at Jason twice and Jason dodged both times fluidly. The bully looked at Jason surprised. Jason looked at the bully and smacked him across the face. My eyes went wide as I held in a fit of laughter. "Did you just slap me?" The teen asked. "I did." Jason said with a smile. "Weird, right?" Jason asked looking at me and Billy. "Now I'm gonna be here every day for what seems like the rest of my life, and I'm sure you are, too. So let's make a deal. Don't sit near me, or them, and we'll be okay." Jason said before walking away to his chair. I looked down at the table in front of me and smirked a bit.
"Okay! So, approved homework, or working on the Better Choices workbook." The teacher said walking down the stairs. Kimberly...who was seated to the right of me abruptly stood up and walked towards the stairs, phone in hand. "I need to go to the ladies' room." She said heading up the stairs. "Uh...Okay. And good morning." The teacher stated. I drummed my fingers along the table in boredom as I stared into space and thinking about what happened yesterday. My vision immediately lowered to my left wrist that was currently covered with a thick black leather bracelet with a green stripe going down the middle. I tore my eyes away from the leather bracelet when the door opened and closed and Kimberly walked down the stairs. I furrowed my eyebrows as I noticed her hair. Her long black hair was no longer...well...long. It had been crudely cut and was now shoulder-length. She wore a smile on her face as she reached her chair and sat down. She looked at me and smiled. I looked away and smiled as I shook my head.
Detention ended and I walked out the building and stopped for a moment. I looked down the road where my house was located. And my father waited for me. I turned around and walked in the opposite direction. I went to the only place where I could be alone. I glanced over my shoulder and spotted Kimberly watching me. I ran my hand through my hair as I looked away and took a sharp right, down a street that took me to the Angel Grove Mines.
