The next day, I woke up and realized it was my birthday.
I didn't say anything because I didn't see a reason to celebrate.
"The monthly supplies have arrived and we need someone to retrieve them." Jordan announced. "Any takers?"
Sean, Bee and I volunteered.
=+=
"I got the last crate, let's go." Sean confirmed.
Bee started to walk out when her foot fell through the flooring.
"Dammit. This place is held up with glue."
I saw movement just outside the window.
"Wait." I stopped them. "There's something outside."
I peered out the window. A guy with dark hair cut across the street towards us with a gun drawn. A couple others followed him.
"Dammit." Bee cursed as she attempted to free her foot from the floor without success.
"Sean, you go out the back with the supplies and run, we'll catch up later."
Sean didn't hesitate to run.
I helped Bee free her foot as the door was kicked open.
We ran to the back door.
Right as we approached it, I heard a creak then a crack as my foot sank into the floor.
Bee stopped to help me, but my foot wouldn't come loose.
"Go!" I yelled.
"No way!"
I heard footsteps running towards us.
"Go dammit!"
Bee stopped pulling at me and gave me one last sorry glance before running away.
I got a couple splinters in my ankle as someone kicked me over against the wall, still not freeing my leg.
I held up my gun.
"Put it down." A guy in the doorway ordered as he pointed a rifle at me.
I lowered my gun and pushed it out of arms reach.
Immediately, the guy in front of me pushed the barrel of his gun to my forehead. I closed my eyes and sucked in a breath as a tear rolled down my cheek.
"We aren't killers. She's innocent." The guy in the doorway pushed the gun away. "Don't worry, we'll get you out of there."
"What if she runs away once we free her?"
"She wouldn't get very far, considering we have the front of the house surrounded."
"But they got away with those supplies."
"Does that give us a right to murder her?"
The first guy grumbled as he used a zip tie taken strategically from a sandwich bag to tie my hands behind my back.
"Is 'her' aloud to talk?" I asked. The guy behind me smirked.
"Only if you tell us your name."
I scowled.
"It's Jay."
"Cute name."
I glared.
"Do I get your names?"
The dark haired guy looked to the guy behind me and nodded before speaking.
"My name's Devon. This is Julio."
