Chapter Eleven

"We gotta sedate you for now." Devon said as he took a small needle out of his bag. "Just in case."

I stared at the needle.

"Comforting."

"Aww, you can hold my hand if you like." Julio teased.

"Shut up and get this over with." I mumbled and pulled up my shirt sleeve.

I woke up while being carried.

I looked up to see a boy with light brown hair looking at me.

"She's awake." He alerted everyone.

"Is she well enough to be questioned?" I heard Julio ask.

"I'm fine, thanks for asking." I snapped and struggled to be put down.

The boy carrying me gently put me down and quickly grabbed the zip tie and kept me on the path we were walking.

"So we know her name in Jay and she didn't go in that house alone." Devon recapped.

"How big is your group?"

"Small. We just lost a couple people so we're down to 8."

"Where's your base?"

I didn't talk.

"Ya, because she'll definitely sell out her friends." Julio remarked sarcastically.

"Keep up that attitude and you might make it to my list of favorites." I told him and smirked.

"Ooooo goodie."

"Now it's my turn for a little 20 questions." I thought up some things.

"Why do you want me exactly?"

"Extra help always comes in handy." Devon answered

"What're everyone's names?"

"The one who was carrying you is Parker. The one falling behind and not talking is Ryan."

Ryan shook his head as if he just woke up.

"Sorry. Daydreaming."

"Another question." I continued. "Why did you need more supplies so badly?"

Devon looked at Julio.

"We have a baby. Back at base. The mom died giving birth. We've been feeding him ever since."

"Who's looking after him right now?"

"A couple of others."

"Thanks for clearing that up."

"You're welcome."

"Now it's time for another question for you." Devon said.

"What were you and those people yelling about in there?"

"My best friend got stuck and I saved her and when I got stuck on the way out, I had to yell at her to make her leave."

"Oh." Julio commented.

"No snarky remark? I'm shocked." I teased. "Actually thinking about it, it probably just pissed off my group a lot."

"Why do you say that?"

"Because our leader is going to be riding their asses trying to figure out where I went and figuring out a search party plan." I looked at my necklace.

Julio saw me and turned around.

"Stop." He told Devon. Everyone stopped.

Julio inspected my necklace.

"Please leave that alone. It's mine."

"What? You got a boyfriend or something?" Julio looked a little pissed.

"No. It's from my brother."

"The group leader." Julio put together the puzzle pieces. He threw his arms in the air and went to high five Devon. "Worried sick, sending out drastic search parties and pissed. Perfect. We kidnapped the worst person possible."

"Should I take offense to that?"

Julio scowled.

"Can we just sedate her again? She doesn't need to be awake."

"Hey!"

Devon handed Julio the needle and Parker handed me over.

Julio held me by my torso as he injected the clear liquid.

I slumped against his chest.
