(This is an alternate ending to chapter four. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!)

Close Call

I came back into conciseness and forced my eyes open. I could move again but I was pretty sure I broke a rib or two.

I was laying on the tile floor. I sat up and looked around. The room was tinted red and the full size mirror behind me had shattered. I picked up a piece and my reflection wasn't there. It was the corpse that had once been in this room.

The mirror on the other side was shattered too. The shard I was looking through seemed to be small and was angled conveniently.

I watched as Jordan walked into the bathroom and saw 'my' dead body. He covered his mouth and tears formed in his eyes. He kneeled over 'me' and checked for 'my' vital signs as tears dripped from his face.

Now I was crying because of all that pain he was going through. I could see the pain on his face, in his eyes.

He couldn't find 'my' pulse so he hugged 'my' lifeless corpse, cradling it.

"Jordan!" I screamed through my sobs. "Jordan that's not me!"

He couldn't hear me.

I tried everything I could think of.

I touched the face of the mirror shard to try to go back through.

All I felt was glass.

I tried to make Jordan see me.

But my best guess is that he couldn't see me either.

I was about to give up.

I cried as I watched him get out his phone.

Probably to call 911.

I picked up another shard.

This one was bigger.

It was a long shot, but I had to try.

I breathed on the glass, like a little kid drawing a picture in a car window.

And I wrote in the foggy glass.

'Jordan?'

I watched contently at the colorful blur that concealed my older brother.

Nothing.

I looked away and tried to calm down, to stop crying and try to make sense of the situation.

I noticed some kind of writing on the floor but tears clouded my vision.

I glanced back at the mirror.

Jordan's hand was pressed against it, next to my message.

I wiped away my tears and scrambled over to the shard.

I wiped away the message and wrote a new one.

'Im not dead'

I could sense the confusion Jordan was feeling.

I thought for a moment.

'In sci-fi movies, when a portal breaks, what would they say if they could have contact to the other side?'

Now I wish I had agreed to watch Stargate with Jordan.

I quickly wrote another message.

'Put the mirror back together'

He hesitated.

'Please, Jordan.'

Jordan slowly started picking up shards.
