Hey ya'll! This is your friendly neighborhood, Jess speaking! This chapter is kind of like Adeen going through memories from her past and explains how she got to where she is today and how she meets a "certain" someone. It also explains her emotional state and how much trauma she has gone through only two people know about. It also has some foreshadowing in it for a much later chapter. I'm sorry about the first memory, I suck at writing from a teenage perspective and I'm a teenager. I know, weird huh? So sorry if it's stupid. I'm very critical on myself when it comes to my writing. So here it is! :) Hope you enjoy and comment. Thanks ya'll!

Twelve-year-old Adeen sat with a book in her hands. She sat under her favorite tree, reading her World War II weapons book her mom had got her for Christmas. Adeen read every single word with interest at heart, loving every word, every paragraph, and even every chapter. She adored the subject so much. It helped Adeen escape from the life she was living in at home. Her father was never around and when he was, he would get verbally abusive or even physically sometimes. Sometimes Adeen thought he was crazy because of some of the things he said. Adeen's mother, Jennifer, always tried to keep her children as far away from the domestic violence as possible. She had to look after her little sister, Jade, most of the time because her mother would be too weak or in so much pain from the beatings, she couldn't take care of her family. Everyone thought Adeen's older brother, Wade, would come over and help the family when they needed it. When he became of age, he moved out and tried to start a new life. He went to Vanderbilt University in Nashville to study astrophysics, and most of all, to get away from his father.

Adeen pushed all those thoughts to the back of her mind and continued reading until two of the neighborhood boys in the grade above Adeen showed up and stood right in front of her. She looked up through her glasses and saw who it was and started to cower behind her book a little. The tall one on the right was John Ericson, and the more muscularly fit one on the left was Joshua Hendrickson. They always managed to make Adeen's life miserable, both at school and after school. There was no mercy for any of their victims. Adeen happened to be the top one on their list. Anything she ever did, say, or even wore would always end up with a radical comment meant to cause her to run to the bathroom and cry for hours. Adeen knew better than that though. She was the tough little nerdy girl who did not react to anything anyone said. She had quickly learned not to get too sensitive about rude comments after learning she had the power of Empathy and could read people like a book. Controlling her emotions had become a huge deal after her powers began to develop. Adeen knew these boys only wanted to make her life intolerable because they were jealous of her intelligence and that they were just completely immature. Adeen thought about punching them in the face but held it back since the last time she hit someone, they got sent to the hospital. So poor little Adeen sat there, cornered like a mouse by two big, fat, ugly cats.

"Well, well, well, if it ain't little miss Know-it-all." Josh smugly greeted.

"What are you reading this time, dork?" Josh asked sarcastically, snatching away her book.

"Hey!" Adeen exclaimed, standing up quickly trying to reach for her book. "Give that back!"

Josh raised the book over his head so Adeen couldn't reach it. She jumped trying to get it but failed to reach due to how short she was compared to the boys. The two bullies were both laughing hysterically at the pathetic act she was giving. They both looked at each other with mischievousness in their eyes and looked back down at little Adeen.

"What did you say? Throw it in the middle of the road? Okay!"

Josh threw the book onto the road and both him and John laughed and began running for their homes.

"No!" Adeen exclaimed running for her book.

She ran onto the black paved road and bent down to pick up her book, not noticing the on coming vehicle. Jennifer looked out the living room window and became frantic suddenly. She sprinted for the door and started running towards her daughter. Her auburn hair whipping in her face and behind her. Adeen stood up and looked over seeing the incoming car. Her eyes went big as she saw the man putting a hand over towards the girl in the front seat stomping on the breaks. She extended out her hand and clenched her eyes shut waiting for the worse. Just before the car could touch her, she stopped the car leaving a small dent on the hood of the car. Adeen started shaking badly and fell to her knees. The man, girl, and a boy quickly got out of the car with concern on their faces. Jennifer ran to her daughter and hugged her tightly, worrying over almost losing her daughter and trying to not let these strangers find out her daughter was a mutant. Jennifer was nearly in tears when she hugged her daughter.
