Chapter Twenty-two: Someone Cares

~*~Author's Notes~*~ So hey guys! update time! So I got inspiration from Iron Man 3 with Tony's nightmare about the battle of Manhattan and his anxiety attacks so here it is! I hope you enjoy the chapter. Since I have fans wanting Bruce and Adeen this chapter is definitely a BrucexAdeen chapter. 

Adeen got hit by something and began to fall off the rooftop to the 20 stories below her. She let out a scream clenching her eyes shut. She suddenly opened her eyes and she was now watching her father fall to his death below on the streets with a bone crushing sound. She quickly sat up and pressed her back against the wall beginning to cry uncontrollably. Adeen closed her eyes again not wanting to open them again. Her eyes opened again to find herself watching her twelve year self, watching the murder of her family. Adeen covered her mouth and turned away as she saw her father beat her mother over and over again. Blood was all over him and her father. Her mother’s beautiful red hair spread out on the ground as blood slowly began running down her head. Adeen clenched her eyes shut wanting this nightmare to end. When she opened them again she was in Iraq. She saw herself firing at the enemy line but then she saw her whole squadron get shot down. Adeen began hyperventilating when she had to witness Austin getting shot in the head right in front of her for the second time. Brain matter went everywhere as he collapsed onto his back with his eyes wide open.

            Bruce woke up hearing Adeen mumbling in her sleep and flinching now and then. He turned over slightly on his side and looked down at her seeing tears streaming down her face and that she looked like she was fighting something. He quickly sat up and shook her gently trying to wake her up. She was shaking violently from whatever she was dreaming about and this worried him immensely.

            “Adeen? Adeen? Babe, wake up. It’s just a nightmare. Adeen, wake up!”

            Adeen suddenly bolted up into a sitting position screaming as if she were being tortured to her breaking point. She was shaking dreadfully now and breathing heavily. The back of her black tank top was drenched in sweat. Tears streamed down her face and she burst into uncontrollable sobbing covering her face with her hands. Bruce quickly wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close to him, rubbing her arm gently. Adeen laid her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes weeping into his t-shirt. She never wanted to experience that again. Running footsteps could be heard coming down the hall and the door opened suddenly to show Tony and the others up having heard her scream. Bruce looked up at them with a worried glance.

            “What happened?” Tony asked sounding extremely concerned.

            “I woke up and found her having an extreme nightmare and she woke up all of a sudden and broke down.” Bruce explained before looking back down at Adeen. “Sh…sh…it’s okay…it’s okay, Adeen…”

            He kissed the top of her head gently before looking back up at the others. They were all as freaked out by this as much as Bruce was. Tony looked at Adeen seeming to know how she felt. He moved his eyes to Bruce then.

            “I’m not insane…I’m not insane…” Adeen mumbled softly, keeping her eyes shut.

            “Let’s leave her alone…” Steve told the others softly.

            They all began walking away. Tony was the last one to go. He looked down at Adeen with confusion and shock feeling like he was the only one going through with this: the nightmares and the anxiety attacks. He shut the door behind him and walked down the hall, running a hand through his hair. Bruce laid back down beside Adeen and looked at her with concern and gently brushed her hair out of her face. Adeen still shook but not as badly as before. He wrapped his arms around her and kept her close to him, running small circles on her back to try and calm her down. Adeen slowly closed her eyes and drifted back to sleep.
