CHAPTER 1 - The Funeral

It was January 21st in the year 2010, Trip had just arrived home, in New York from Paris. He was tired and so he went straight to his apartment/penthouse. He opened the door, and checked his messages.

Message one: "Trip, dear, everything is set for the funeral this Saturday. I hope you're doing fine; your dad and I are deeply concerned. I'll see you tomorrow, we love you! Good bye." His mom, Theresa Imogen McAllister said.

Message two: "Trip, it's me, Trevor. I just called to check in on you and see if you're doing fine. Just know that I'll always be here for you, so if you need someone to talk to I'm just, uhh, I'm just a cab away. So don't be a stranger." His brother, Trevor Camden McAllister said.

Message three: "T its Tiff. I'm just calling to see if you're doing okay. I know it's a tough time right now but I hope you're still taking care of yourself. I'm around if you need someone to talk to. I'll see you tomorrow. I love you big brother. G'bye!" His sister, Tiffany Victoria McAllister said.

Message four: "Bro! It's me, Bradley, Chase and Jeff. (Jeff speaking) We just wanna know how you've been. We miss you and we just wanna know if you're okay. (Chase speaking) We know it's been a tough couple of weeks and we want you to know that we're here for you. (Bradley speaking) Hit us up whenever you wanna talk. See you soon, buddy!" His friends, Bradley Walker, Chase Everett and Jeff Sage said.

               End of messages.

Trip rolled his eyes as he listens to the messages. He walks towards the kitchen and grabbed one Hoegarden beer then opened it before walking outside into his balcony. He leaned onto the railings and continued to sip his beer. He pulled out his phone and dialed 'Megan Miller'.

"Hi you've reached Megan Miller, I can't come to the phone right now, busy planning a wedding and picking outfits with my hubby for our baby! Leave a message after the beep!" Then Trip put the phone back in his pocket and chugged the beer. His eyes got teary-eyed then wiped it off before going back inside.

After a while he went back inside, finished the beer and threw himself on his bed. As he turned his head to the bedside table he sees a picture of Megan and him on top of the Brooklyn Bridge, both their favorite place in the world. Then he eventually falls asleep with the picture frame in his hand.

The next morning Trip woke up to the noise outside his room. He washed his face before going out of his room, only to find his parents and his sister tinkering around his penthouse.

"Okay, what do you think you're doing?" He asked his mom who was cooking some breakfast. "I'm making some pancakes." His mom replied. "Why are you guys here?" He asked scratching his head. "It's Friday, is it not? We told you we were coming." His dad, Tom Auden McAllister replied. "Are you wearing the same clothes as yesterday?" His sister, Tiffany asked. "As a matter of fact, yes. I was too tired from my flight from Paris yesterday so I directly hit the hay." Trip replied, clearly lying.

"Look, I appreciate you guys coming over, but why can't you just stay in your Upper East Side penthouse?" He asked looking at his mom and dad. "And Tiff, aren't you supposed to be going to classes at NYU?" He added. "Son, we just wanna know if you're doing okay." His dad replied. "Well I'm fine, okay? Right now, I just wanna be alone and rest because I haven't been home in a while. So could you please respect that?" He pleaded. "We're sorry. We'll leave in a while but just please eat some pancakes?" His mom asked. Trip nodded and went back to his room to shower.
