Theory Five

Chapter 2-The Team

"Hmm. I wonder...."  My thoughts trailed off.

"Wonder what?" My father said as the elevator dinged closed.

"Well I wonder if there's something in its DNA that makes him resistant to sleeping darts but not completely immune." I said looking at computer screens.

"Huh. I never thought of that." My father said joining me at the table.

"I swear both of your just as bad as your father. Anyway,Athena there's someone I want you to meet." My mother said from behind me.I turned around and saw a short woman with black hair, brown eyes, and dark skin. She was wearing a lab coat with dark jeans.

"This is Dr.Rosa. She's the head of this department. We wanted you to let her since y'all will be working close with each other." My mother said.

Dr.Rosa suck her hand out for a handshake and I shook it. The beast sneezed signaling us that he was awake. 

"Oh. Bless you." Dr.Rosa said kindly.

"Dr.Rosa my daughter ,Athena here,thinks she found something.". My father put his hand on my shoulder.

"I'm going to grab some coffee from the coffee shop next door." I said.

"I'll come with." My mother stated.

"Okay." I said cheerfully.

"Are we getting coffee for everyone or?" My mom asked excitedly.My mom really loves coffee but my father won't let her drink it.

"Why what?" I whisper looking around the elevator seeing nobody, I begin to wonder if I'm going crazy.

Your not going crazy cause I won't let you. Also, why leave me with these other 3 humans?  The words appear I could faintly hear a whimper as I read them.

"Not so tough after all are we?" I think and chuckle to myself.

Hmph. I swear I heard a faint growl. The elevator doors open and I head straight to the main doors and out to the coffee shop;which is right beside the lab. I normally go everyday because I'm a coffee addict and since my family works in a lab we work at lot at night so coffee really helps those nights.

The smell of coffee greets my nostrils as I enter the coffee shop. There's not too many people here for a work day. Then I remember that it's probably only five-o'clock in the morning.

"Athena!"  A voice said from behind me. It belongs to my best and probably only friend Ares. We've been friends for as long as I can remember. He has shaggy blonde hair, amber eyes, pale skin. He's at least a foot taller than me which means he calls me short a lot.

"Hey Ares. What have you been doing?" I ask hugging him.

"Trying to find you. I texted you why didn't  you answer? I was worried." He says sadness in his voice.

"Hmmm." I look around not sure if I should say that they captured someone.

"Well?"

"Let me get coffee and I'll take you to the lab to show you what kept me from texting back." I respond.

"Alright here's your coffee." I say walking out of the elevator as Ares follows close behind. My mom turns and mouths thank you as she writes something down on her clipboard. I look towards the cage and see that it's back to dark again. There are a few new people in the room talking quietly amongst themselves.

I walk over to Dr.Rosa and ask, "Who are they?" She looks up and at the new comers.

"The team. Guys come here." She gets the teams attention and they come at her command.

"Now Athena, this is Ash,Jax, and Noah. Everyone this is Athena."

"Hi.I'm Jax." A boy with dyed orange hair,brown eyes, and pale skin says.

"I'm Ash." A taller boy with dark hair,grey eyes, and tan skin says sticking out his hand. I shake it and look to the third boy Dr.Rosa mentioned.

"He's mute." Dr.Rosa says looking at the cage where Five is pacing back and forth.

"Oh. Well, it's nice to meet you three."  I say.

"Umm Ath? Who's he?" Ares asks from beside me. I jump completely forgetting he was there. He smiles apologetically.

"That's what kept me from texting you back. That's Theory Five." I say looking at Five. As if on cue Five looks up at me and relief fills his eyes before they turn stone cold as he looks at the boys surrounding me.

"Alright let's get started. We're sending one person in at a time to try and either make conversation or just make a connection. Athena you first." I'm pushed to the front of the cage as a door opens to my right and I'm guided inside. It leads down a hallway then another door on the right.

I walk to the door and open it. My eyes have to adjust to the darkness before they can see. I see a figure of a man[probably Five] in the middle of a room. The growling from before stops as I step closer to him.

"Hello again." I say

Athe.

"Don't call me that. I told you that isn't my name."

Mmm I'll call you whatever  I want to thank you very much.

"So, your back to tough guy huh? Fair enough." He huffs in annoyance and I laugh. A knock at the door almost scares me.

"Athena it's time for Ash to go in." Jax says. I nod knowing that he can't see me. I turn back to Five to notice he's right in front of me.

"Ah!"

Don't leave please. He looks into my eyes and for a moment I'm frozen before I head toward the door. All of a sudden my feet leave the floor and I feel strong arms around me pulling me farther away from the door.

I told you not to leave but, you didn't listen so now I'm holding you hostage until I want you to leave.

"You can't do that. " I say struggle against his grip.

Watch me. The arms grip tighter and pulling me down onto a soft surface. The light inside the cage turns on by Five snapping his fingers. Ash,Jax,Ares,my mom, Dr.Rosa, and Noah are all gasping.
