Chapter 11- The Maze

Athena's point of view:
The room was dark as it came into focus. I don't remember being knocked out everything has begun to get hazy. I remember being in a cell...... darkness..... someone saying something.....that's all. I can't even remember how I ended up on this god forsaken island. My head hurt really bad like someone was taking a drill and hammer and started pounding on my head.

I shivered,the room was really chilly. I walked through the dark room trying to find a door or a light but found nothing. I stood in place and tried to think about what happened but my head just hurt even more so I gave up trying. A door opened and light flooded into the room blinding me.

"Ugh!" I groaned.

I walked towards the light thinking it was a way out but couldn't find a way out. Instead a person was standing in white robes,with white hair, and white eyes. The light seemed to come from this person.

"Um excuse me but do you know a way out of here?" I asked the person standing in front of me.

"You have to go through the maze. In order to pass the door you need to answer my riddle." He said.

"What's your riddle?" I asked curiously. The light was giving off some warmth so I got as close to it as I dared.

"What has endless paths, multiple endings, only one beginning, and only one true end?"

I paced back and forth across the wood but it soon made me light-headed so I sat down.

"Hmm. Endless paths, multiple endings, only one beginning, and only one true end." I whispered to myself. I could feel like the answer was right in front of me but it wasn't in my grasp.

"May I have a hint?" I asked hopefully. The person shook his head.

"Very well then.Hmmm. Ah ha! A maze. It's a maze." I exclaimed standing up. The person nodded and moved aside. A white door was standing in his place. It had been inscribed with some gold lettering,it wasn't legible.

The door opened on its own as I moved forward. Another dark room greeted me as I entered. My headache became more painful and I had to clutch my head for a few seconds to stop the pain. After it passed I straightened up and looked around. A outline of a figure was standing in the middle of the room looking at me. I took a step closer to it, it ran towards me and grabbed my collar pulling me toward its face.

It's face was distorted. It's mouth was stitched together so it couldn't speak. It's hands were black and covered in ugly looking scars. Though it's mouth was stitched shut it still somehow managed to make a ear-raping scream. My scream joined the creature's. My heart pounded in my chest. My wings encircled me cutting the creatures grip off of my collar. It hollered it's terrible scream and vanished.

I dropped to the ground and the sound of a crunch filled the room. Warm liquid came down my back. I reached my hand around and tried to find the wound but was met with dried blood. The creature was back and this time more distorted than before. It pushed me against the wall and screamed in my face. I looked it dead in the eyes and screamed back. It cowered away a little back but recovered quickly before throwing me across the room.

I came crashing down on some wooden tables. The creature launched into a attack on me. A couple of seconds later the creature was gone and my head hurt even worse than before. The sound of a door opening flooded softly into the room. I followed the sound and came across another person but this one had on a black robe instead of a white robe. It was illuminating a black light which looked welcoming and warm.

"To pass this door you must answer the three questions set out before you." The person said.

"Alright sounds easy enough." I said.

"Who is the person you have to kill in order to prove your loyalty to Ransom?"

The questioned stunned me but I quickly recovered and started thinking. Hmmmm,I thought.

"The Underground Sun's leader." I found myself saying. But who lead The Underground Sun? What even is The Underground Sun? And why does my head hurt so badly?

"What's his name?" The person asked.

"Five." I responded. Wait, that name sounds familiar but where have I heard that name before?

"How will you kill him?" The person asked.

"Knife to chest or gun." I responded.

How do I know this answers? What's going on? The person moved aside and another door was in its place. It moved open at my touch. I was greeted by cheering, yelling, whispering, and hollering. The headache that I had vanished. People crowded me, clapped me on the back and hugged me. A group of musicians started playing a tone and people started cheering even louder.

A silence filled the room and I looked towards a pedestal. Ransom was standing behind it and his hand was hanging in the air. His eyes locked with mine and he sent me a proud smile. I smiled back. Proudness gripped my heart and filled my body. I had actual made Ransom proud.

"Congratulations to our new recruit Athena. Athena will kill the leader of The Underground Sun and bring us his head. She has passed the loyalty maze and will therefore lead us into battle. She knows where the base is and how to get in. We will send her alone first to draw the leader out then we shall attack when the leader is dead." The cheering started and I joined in. Ransom waved us quiet. "Enjoy the food and rest of your night. We will march into battle tomorrow." The music picked up again but not before I heard someone whisper, "NO!"

My head whipped around and I caught sight of a figure running from a balcony. I flew up towards the balcony and saw the figure running down the stairs. I bolted towards the end of the stairs and caught the figure as they tried to ran ahead of me.

"Going somewhere?" I said cracking a evil smile. The figures head slowly turned in my direction and their face looked familiar.

"How could you do this to him? We've spent all of our resources trying to find you and when we actually did we find you here. Not only that but planning to kill Five as well. He loved you! How dare you do this to him!" The person screamed at me and kicked me but it didn't hurt.

"I don't know what your talking about." I said waving my hands so that the doors ,that were suppose to be the persons escape path, closed. I tossed the person across the room and heard a crunch.

"Don't toy with me." The person spat. I grabbed them by the throat and pushed them against the wall.

"Oh you think I'm toying with you? Oh I'm not even close to it." I spat in the person face. They locked eyes with me for the first time since I caught them. It was a girl no older than maybe my age, her brown hair was tucked in a tight braid, and her skin was pale. Her face held a look of utter betrayal and disbelief.

I drew my wings out from my body, let her go and jumped backwards. Her eyes widened in horror and she scrambled on her  knees before I caught her again.

"What's going on here?" Ransom's voice said from behind me. I  dropped the girl and turned around.

"Caught this here girl." I pointed to the girl. "She was spying on us. She seems to know me and she's talking about someone I don't know who though."

He pondered this a moment before kneeling down next to the girl and grabbed her chin before she kicked him. He chuckled.

"Now I wouldn't do that if I were you cause if you do I'll have my friend here continue throwing you around the room and you don't want that.Do you?" The girl shook her head.

"Good. Now, what are you doing here?" The girl didn't speak she just wiped her hand over her mouth which had started bleeding.

"Very well. Athena." I turned my attention back  to Ransom who had stood up.  "Have fun." He said with a evil smirk.

I smiled back and turned back to the girl. She looked at me with disappointed eyes before vanishing from thin air.

"Damn I hate when they do that. Athena re-join the party and we'll talk in the morning before the battle." He said smiling and clapping me on the shoulder before walking down the stairs. I nodded and followed suit.
