I was being enrolled in a boarding school. Ribston Hall High School, somehow I was also worried about the house they were gonna put me in. If it was gonna be Britons, Danes, Saxons, or Romans. Well, I just found out that these houses have meanings, and people from Rome, Denmark and Germany. It’s creepy but Nate and I were being put in the same house. Jessica was now twelve, and I am wondering how she is right now without her brother.
“Nathan Sykes and Ellie Collins”
I ran out the house and into the hall to get my mail. She handed an envelope to me and handed another one to Nathan.
“Who is it from?”
“Mine’s from Jessica and yours is I guess from Paige and Caylah”
“Yeah, you’re right. Shall we read them in the corridor?”
He nodded and ran back to our room. I haven’t told him about what happened to me when he was gone for a whole school year.
“C’mon, I thought you said we were reading their letters”
Maybe Caroline sent me here for good. I already told her about the phone call and all of a sudden she changed her mind about sending me to another school but here. Maybe she’s trying to contact my father right now.
“Aren’t you supposed to be in bed by now?”
I turned around and looked at our principal.
“Yes. But I couldn’t sleep, I kept wondering if my father’s alive or not”
“Try to think about it tomorrow love, c’mon you all are waking up early in the morning”
I lay back on the bed whilst I was still staring at the light on our window. My hand was again trembling. I don’t know why. Nathan turned to face me, his eyes were wide open.
“You’re still awake?”
He nodded and stood up.
“I can’t sleep. The letter Jessica sent me was saying that Melody came to our house and asked her if you and I were still hanging out”
“I can’t sleep, too. I’m worried”
“What are you worried about?”
“Remember when you were in Ireland taking care of your grandfather. Well, somebody called me and told me that my father is handing us the company he owns”
“That’s impossible your father’s dead”
“That’s what I’ve been thinking as well. My father was dead a long time ago and he couldn’t be rising from the dead just to tell her that she’s giving the company to me and Hanna”
He stroked my hair softly before lying me down and sitting on the corner of my bed.
“You know if the principal sees us I’m killing you”
“Don’t worry. She’ll never know”
“What if she does?”
“I’ll blame you”
I pushed him off the bed and turned to the other direction.
An envelope was left on our table. The return address was Nathan’s, but it was for both of us.
“Nathan, it’s from Aunt Karen”
“You call my mum ‘Aunt’?”
“I can’t just call her Karen”
“It’s possible”
I opened the envelope and read her letter out loud. Nathan was tearing up as I was reading further from the letter. Even I miss Paige and Caylah, even Jessica. But this is for the both of us. We were sent to a boarding school together, but it was the right thing to do. Especially, now that we actually know each other for four years, we really need to stick together. Melody wasn’t a true friend.
The letter reached it end. I was already wishing for it to stop.
“That was a bit emotional”
“I agree with you. I cannot believe my mum would write that for the two of us”
Students were looking at us whilst we were sitting in front of the fireplace.
“You all are boring. Get out of here!”
It was a bit boring in the house; my heart was pounding out my chest. Caroline and Aunt Karen were here. I was a bit worried; Nathan was sitting beside me on the sofa in the middle of the living room. Aunt Karen went in the house and looked at the both of us.
“We need to take the two of you out of here. That’s the reason why we’re here. We’re dropping out the both of you”
“Why are you dropping us out? We love it here”
“Yes. But I’m a bit worried about what will happen to the both of you whilst you’re in high school”
“We’re not even in sixth form, mum”
She grabbed his arm and pulled him outside. Why were we being dropped out?
My head was spinning from what where I already was. I was back in my room with Nathan, Paige and Caylah. Paige had a dazzling beauty, even Caylah. Caylah’s blonde hair was already in curls; Paige’s brown hair was curled naturally. They both had dazzling beauties. Hanna was in a University with Cheyenne. Whilst I’m here stuck in my attic bedroom. Nathan was also improving, this might be stupid but he was more gorgeous.
The room remained quiet for a minute as I was still staring at Caylah’s blonde hair.
“Ellie, what are you staring at?”
“Nothing”
I turned to Nathan who was looking at me peacefully. The book was on his lap. I looked into his eyes before being interrupted by Caylah clearing her throat.
“I’m sorry to interrupt you two lovebirds but I think Jessica is here to take Nathan home”
“Yeah, go ahead. I’ll see you tomorrow Nate”
He stood up and walked out the door. Paige and Caylah gave me a strange look and then a smile.
“Ellie, he’s gonna ask you out”
“Paige, what are you talking about?”
“By the look in his eyes; he wants you to be his. Awe, how romantic is it Caylah?”
“Super romantic”
I rolled my eyes and went back to the book I was reading. They continued chattering about me and Nathan.
“Paige, Caylah, maybe you can stop chattering about mine and Nathan’s friendship and start doing each other’s homework”
“Not what I like Ellie, and P.S I hate doing homework”
Can high school really change everyone?
