My arms were rested on the single bed whilst I felt the cold wall. Nathan’s name was running in my head, it was a peeve. Thoughts were already making my head spin. I was having a problem. Well, since I actually talked to Nathan about the take-it-to-the-next-level thing. Paige was warning me about everything, Caylah was telling me that he was gonna do it but Melody kept denying.
The truth is me and Melody had a little argument. It was like mine and Caylah’s, but I wasn’t dropped out because of her but instead it was about Nathan. She kept telling me about him being a bad influence and we weren’t even meant to be friends. What did she mean by that? Nathan wasn’t a bad influence. It was the real him, I don’t want him to change. Everyone liked him the way he is.
Someone knocked on my door after minutes of silence. The hair on the back of my neck was standing up. OK, Nathan and I haven’t at all been talking.
“Ellie”
My hand trembled as I held on the cold doorknob.
“El, can you please open the door? I’m with Hanna”
I opened the door and saw Hanna and Nathan standing in the doorway. Her hair was tied in a side part braid.
“I heard about Melody”
“Can we just shut it about the-Melody-thing?”
“Anything you want”
They went inside and locked the door. Nathan was looking at me awkwardly. Was this about his unanswered question?
“Why did the both of you come?”
There was another pound on the door; louder than Paige and Caylah’s.
“You mean three of us. Jessica misses her babysitter”
I opened the door and pulled her in.
“There’s something called, calling my name”
“Sorry Jess. You were just so slow. Caroline might see you”
“Funny. I thought Nathan was the slowest”
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We were all watching it in Nathan’s room. It was hard to watch from all the mess hanging on his television. He wasn’t really that neat. But, hey, he’s the Nathan Sykes I really know.
Lucy reminded me of Jessica and Edmund reminded me of Nathan. He never learned how to follow what he’s told; stubborn but innocent.
“Nathan, clean your room. You don’t wanna end up grounded”
I tossed him a shirt and folded some clothes that were on his study table.
“Stop acting like Edmund and start acting like Nathan”
“Oh you want me to start throwing all my clothes in the floor”
“The eleven year old Nate”
“We better hurry. Nate and Ellie are having a ‘private’ meeting”
Hanna made air-quotes in the word ‘privacy’ that made Jessica laugh out loud.
We were all at a water park, I mean all; except for the party pooper Caroline. Its summer, there has to be a way to beat the heat. We were at this hanging stupidity thing, I don’t know what that is but all I know is that you need to hold on to these handles and you slid down to the pool and let go. Well, that’s all I know.
Nathan was daring me to go down.
“El, just do it so we can go down”
“Nate, I’m not doing it, I’m not…”
“Oh so Ellie’s afraid”
I turned around and saw Jacque in a two piece wear. It looked so disgusting with her in it.
“I don’t know who’s embarrass, Jacque or the bikini”
Jessica looked at her disgusted.
“I feel bad for the bikini”
“Why I outta”
“Whoa, girls please, no fighting in the water park”
Thank you Aunt K, I thought she’ll never do this.
“Just go down after Nathan”
Jeannette was sitting beside me whilst we were thinking of anything we can do more in the water park. Except watching little kids cry out the swimming pool because of Nathan pranking them that he’s the son of Poseidon.
“Should we join him? I’m tired watching those kids”
“Maybe”
She grabbed a tube of paint in her small purse and walked to the kiddy pool.
“Try not to flirt with anyone”
“I promise”
She handed me a tube and knelt down trying to distract the boy that kept eyeing on us. I pressed the tube letting red paint pour on the pool and making the water red. Nathan must’ve been so proud of her if he sees this.
Kids started screaming whilst running around having red stains on their body. This was the typical relatives of Nathan Sykes.
“Ellie, Jessica, what have you done?!?”
Nathan ran over us. Well, I know his revenge I don’t know if Jessica knows but I am running. He grabbed my waist and carried me by his shoulder.
“Nathan James Sykes, put me down”
“After fifteen minutes I will”
“That’s a con”
“So, who cares?”
“I do. I’m hanging upside down”
He jumped in the pool whilst I was still hanging on his shoulder.
“That was your great plan”
“Of revenge”
I splashed him on the face and dove all the way under the pool with him following me. People might have been staring at us by now. Caylah or Paige weren’t with us, I wish they were. It would be more fun than this, but maybe me and Nathan did need some alone time to hang out as normal best friends.
This is what everyone is missing in a friendship.
Will any day be this fun?
