Chapter 6

Signum: It all began during the night of her 9th birthday, which is June 7th at 12:00 AM. That’s when the book of darkness begins its startup and made Hayate our master.

Shamal: Our sole duties as guardian knights are to gather linker cores to fill the book of darkness and protect our master.

Vita: Though when we first appear before her… she kind of passed out on us.

Shamal: *Sweat Drop* Ah ha ha… That’s something we never had it happened even once before. Our master fainting upon seeing us… We’re still very surprised when it happened.

Signum: That event aside, our new master… Master Hayate. Her young age was one thing, but she differed in many ways from our previous masters.

Novena: [Eyes : White] “No way! So you’ve been treated very badly by your previous masters!?”

Signum: Yes… Really… Everything was different from all our previous masters. Master Hayate’s treatment of us, unlike our other masters, wasn’t beating us down on us or treating us like tools. It was as if she were treating us as family. We had our hesitations… However, as the new master wished, we were starting to live a quiet everyday life.

Novena: [Eyes : Blue] “I see… So you took my place while I was recovering from my wounds…”

Shamal: Recovering? Ah, are you hurt somewhere!?

Novena: [Eyes : Blue] “It’s alright… I think I did make a full recovery or so I thought.”

Signum: That fight we had yesterday… So you are still in the state of recovery?

The R-Typer nods.

Signum: Still, despite that handicap, you can still stand up to me on equal ground. Just what are you?

Novena: [Eyes : Blue] “I’ll tell you more about myself after your story is done.”

Signum: Very well. Where was I… Time passed by so slowly. We, together with our master, had been spending our lives with nothing going on. But that all changed when we went to master Hayate’s regular checkup and found something we did not anticipate it to happen.

Shamal: The doctor says… that for some unknown reason, Hayate’s legs suffer from a nerve-based paralysis and that in the past six months, the paralysis has slowly moved up. Especially in the past two months… She said that there is a danger that her internal organs will become paralyzed as well.

Novena: [Eyes : White] “No!! That! That can’t happen! Not when I just manage to got back to see her again!”

Signum: Unfortunately it will… Master Hayate’s condition… It was not an illness. The curse of the Book of Darkness… The Book of Darkness, with Master Hayate ever since she was born, was closely linked to the master’s body. The strong magical powers that have been suppressed ate away at the master’s body, as she had a young Linker Core. Getting in the way not only of healthy physical activity, but threatening basic operations for survival. And when our master met her first awakening, that sped up. That meant the master was using her magical powers, though only a very tiny amount, to support our activities of the four of us. We couldn’t possibly claim to had nothing to do with it.

Novena: [Eyes : Blue] “There… is a cure for this… right?”

Shamal: Yes… If Hayate were to truly awaken as the master of the Book of Darkness…

Zafira: Our master’s illness would fade away. At the least, it would stop progressing.

Vita: Truth to be told… I truly don’t want to tarnish Hayate’s future with blood, so I won’t kill anyone. But I won’t stop at anything else!
