Winter's Sunshine

5. Her First

Jen was happy to see the document in her hand. She had been appointed to her first mission and the cherry on top was the fact that she had Bucky in her team. She decided to call in everyone for the meeting and hoped everything would go smoothly. She had to give her best to prove her worth. After all, it was her very first mission.

Jen patiently waited in the meeting room, greeting everyone as they came in. Bucky was the last one to show up, taking the seat at the very end of the table.

She then explained the whole mission to the soldiers and gave each one their task. This one was an extraction mission from yet another HYDRA base claiming to be a pharmaceutical company. The mission was quite simple. Just invade, extract a sample they were producing and bring it back for further investigation. Apparently, these crazy HYDRA heads were trying to manipulate human DNA and create mutants as a form of a weapon. This was an intel SHIELD had received a while back. So they had to look into it. The meeting came to an end and everyone started to leave the room.

"I hope we are in good hands", Bucky said walking towards Jen.

Jen just nodded, smiling nervously.

"Your first mission?", Bucky inquired.

"Yes. Don't worry, I will give my best.", Jen replied.

"I know you will.", Bucky said smiling as he left the room.

Jen picked her laptop and made her way to the control room. She had to give her best to this mission. For herself, yes, but also to somewhat impress Bucky. But I don't know why!

On reaching the control room, Jen clicked on the compound camera and got the view of the soldiers who were now ready for the mission. Bucky was leading them as they walked towards the van.

She watched an agent give them their earpiece, the only thing she was dependent on for communication. Jen wore one herself, activating the communication. Bucky was now instructing the soldier about the mission, getting a nod from them after each sentence. Jen marveled at the sight of him. Dressed in an all-black tactical suit, he looked so handsome. His metal arm shone bright contrasting with his attire, his long hair in an effortless bun.

She had been surrounded by so many soldiers every day, for the most part of her life, yet Bucky caught her eye. He was different. He felt different to her. Familiar.

"Damn he looks good.", Jen whispered, unaware that she spoke right into the mike.

"Thanks, Jen" Bucky's voice was heard loud and clear through the earpiece. Jen felt a chill run down her spine as she realized that he had heard her. Shit! She moved her attention back to the screen and saw Bucky who was dismissing the soldiers now directly facing the camera which Jen was watching him from.

"No- I mean, I was just checking the earpiece.", Jen reasoned out, watching   Bucky smirking on the screen.

"OfCourse you were.", Bucky mused winking at her.

Jen's heart fluttered at it's sight, hating the effect he had on her. She composed herself quickly and checked the status of all four channels connecting to each soldier's earpiece, making sure they were fully functional. She ran the code in her computer and infiltrated the HYDRA base. Jen was now all set for the mission.
