A/n
My friend told me that there wasn't enough information about adam for people to understand the type of relationship y/n and adam had. So this chapter is to help you understand her grief and why she went through with joining the revolution. So... enjoy?

2 years before

It was my first night working in the tavern. I had watched my mom work here my whole life, how hard could it be? PRETTY FRIKIN HARD I GUESS!
I was visibly struggling.
"6 ales madam!"
"3 ciders please!"
"4 rums madam!"
"2 whiskeys!"
I was running all over the tavern like a mad man. Everyone kept shouting. Shouting for drinks, refills or to ask me questions. I didn't know why they where asking me questions, my mom never got asked questions.
But 1 specific table of men called for a question, their table had no drinks on it so I assumed they where going to ask for a drink.
"How can I help you gentlemen?"
"Madam, we just wanted to let you know that you are taking this surprisingly well for a new worker."
I smiled at them, then asked what I was originally going to say.
"What would you like to drink?"
A man from the far right spoke first.
"A whiskey madam."
I smiled at him and memorized it.
"2 ales" said a man from the far left. He orderd for his friend. I gave them both a smirk and memorized it.
2 more men. The one next to me on the right spoke first.
"A hard cider please." He smiled at me, I smiled back.
The boy on the left spoke.
"Can I please have some water?" He then looked at the rest of the table and whispered to me.
"I'm not trying to get drunk and start a riot." I snickered a bit, he did the same.
I ran off to go get thier drinks.
I started to fill up their tins and some other cups for other tables, when I heard a voice squeak behind me.
It was the man that orderd water, that's a pretty odd thing to order at a tavern so it wasn't to hard to memorize. I thought he came over to change his drink order .
"Madam?"
"Hello, are you here to change your order?"
I replied while glancing at him a couple of times
He replied talking a little louder and with a bit more confidence.
"Do you need help? You look exhausted and I wouldn't mind. I dont want to be at a table with a bunch of drunks." He chuckled, I chuckled back
"This tavern is filled with drunks." I said in a somewhat serious but still joking tone.
He shrugged
"I feel bad." He said with a smirk
I turned around fully.
"Ugh, fine" I rolled my eyes and gestured for him to come behind to counter.
"I will shout orders to you, just fill the tins" I said pointing at him and beginning to take drinks to his table.
He jokingly saluted me, I rolled my eyes  and picked up the tray of drinks.
I walked to the table and started handing everyone the drinks. They all thanked me and people started entering the tavern. Soon all the tables are filled with people, they are shouting more and more orders, I try to add tabs but there was to many people and I was running out of ink. I was so shocked that I forgot the man was even helping me. I was panicking, it has never been this packed. What the hell was the event?!??!
I ran to the counter to tell him that we have to switch jobs for a while.
"HEY! Uhh...." I realized I never caught his name. I looked at him expectantly.
"My names adam, adam Thomas."he simply replied, edging me to go on.
"My name is y/n l/n. Anyways, we need to switch jobs really quick"
He nodded.
"So what exactly do I do?"
"Memorize the orders and shout them to me, ask for tab names and write them down. I need to get more ink from the back"
He nodded and sprinted to the tables that where calling for me.

Shit shit shit shit, WHERE IS THE INK?????
FUUUUUU-
oh, found it.
I bolted to behind the counter and slammed the ink down for adam to use. He had already written 2 tabs and he was running over to write more.  IT HAS NEVER BEEN THIS FULL!!! I  Immediately started to fill tins. People were handing me money to pay for tabs and started to leave. Adam's friends left a long time ago, he really didn't have to stay but I'm so grateful he did. The tavern started to calm down and me and adam just sat behind the counter till everyone left.
"Jesus, will this happen every day?!" I said through breaths and snickering, I turned to adam to wait for a response.
"This is the first time this tavern has ever gotten so many people."
He said, he looked a lot more tired than me.
I decided I wanted a drink after that freakshow.
"Want a drink?" I said while pouring myself some whiskey
"Uh... sure, what are you grabbing?"
"A whiskey."
"Then I guess we're going to have whiskeys? I've never even had whiskey."
"Well, then I'm getting ready for a show!"
He chuckled at my remark.
I handed him a tin and picked up my own.
I sat down on the other side of the counter and he got up from the floor and rested against the counter. He gave me a suspicious look. The look said 'what are you making me do right now' I shot back a 'just do it' look, he rolled his eyes
"Ugh, here goes nothing."
First he sniffed it and made a small face.
I laughed at him.
"What even is this....." he mumbled then took a sip.
He instantly made a 'WHAT HAVE I- NO , YOU DONE!' Face and looked away. I started laughing hysterically.
He callmed down a bit and shut his eyes really tight.
"That tastes like what a fire looks like...." he said, eyes still closed in my direction.
"Well, you did... ok? For your first time trying it."
"Well I dont really drink."
"I can tell, you orderd water at a tavern, definitely not normal." He chuckled, I took a sip of my whiskey. I barely flinched , Adam looked at me with shock and his mouth wide open.
I laughed and poured a bit of water in the whiskey to get more flavor.
He poured himself some water and we started talking.
He started the conversation,
"So, where ya'from?"
"My mom is an immigrant from france. And for my dad....I never really... met him..."
He looked at me as if he related. I never really talked about my dad with anyone, but something about adam made me want to open up about it.
"I know how you feel, I never really knew my mom. She left the family for a different man that she thought she'd have a better life with.  me and my dad have never heard from her since, she wrote me a letter once but it was to tell me shes not coming back. I ripped it to shreds before I could look at the return address." He looked down and leaned fully against the counter and put his forehead in his hands.
I decided to rub his shoulder to comfort him, he looked up and smiled at me.
" I haven't opend up like that to anyone in a while... sorry for being so... sad?" He snickered a bit. I gave him a warn smile and snickered. He look relieved and like a weight had been lifted off of him. He looked, happy.
"So, adam. What's your letter adress?"
I pulled out a paper and quill to write it down so we can write letters to each other.
"{letter adress}"
"Ooook..." I said as i scribbled the adress down.
"So, what are you going to do tomorrow?"
"I dont have anything planned "
"Come by the tavern, let's talk"
"Friends?" He held out his hand for me to shake and raised his brows. I took his hand and shook it
"Friends."
And that's when the magic started. Best friends. Nothing can break us apart. Adam was like a brother to me, we would have conversations about life and about worlds beyond worlds.
He understood me better than anyone.
I wouldn't trade him for anything.
