"y/n, wake up" ben whispered as he nudged me, I stirred in my sleep. I looked up at him, he was smiling, I never took ben to be a morning person, but I was happy to see him beaming with positivity.
"hello ben, how has your day been?" I asked to be polite.
"ehh, it's good. but you need to get up and get dressed, it's still early so I'm gonna go get us some breakfast" ben started to walk away.
"thank you!" I yelled after him
"anytime y/n" he called back
I sat up and rubbed my eyes from the sunlight pouring in and blinding me, but I was still grateful for the light since it heated the tent. after a while of getting used to the light I stood up from the cot and picked up the blankets ben used to sleep on the floor so that I wouldn't slip on them, I folded them and put them in the crate they were originally in when ben took them out. I remembered I was still wearing bens clothes, I have to change. I took the dress I was wearing yesterday along with the corset that I was using and started to pull off the shirt ben lent me. I tied the corset on and pulled on the skirt undergarment, I pulled on my dress and tied the laces on the back to fit the figure of the undergarment. It took me a while to get it on right but I managed. I walked over to the distorted mirror and took a ribbon ben had to tie my hair up and out of my face. I put it in a high bun that looked a bit messy,
but that was fine since I was going back to the tavern anyway. ben walked back into the tent with 2 clay plates with food and 2 tins.
"camp doesn't have much clean water so I brought ale." ben spoke, setting the plates and tins on the ground and sitting with his legs crossed. He gestured for me to get on the ground and I accepted his offer. I sat on my calves and faced forward at ben as he began speaking.
"so what do you think abe is doing right now?"
I scoffed and shoveled some eggs in my mouth.
"I wonder if he even stayed long at the tavern after I left," I added, ben snickered.
"well abe does keep his promises"
"I should've made him promise." we laughed a bit.
"Are you always in such a good mood in the morning?" I asked, genuinely wanting a serious answer.
"well, when you're in the military, every day is a blessing. as they say ' normally sons bury their fathers, but in war, weeping fathers bury their sons.' " ben replied following up with a sigh.
I nodded.
"what about you? what do you think you're going to do once you find Arnold lewis?" benjamin asked, only giving me glances while putting food in his mouth. I'd forgotten about having to find Arnold, having to gain his trust, having to give the man false hope and maybe even court him. It made me feel terrible but knowing why I'm doing it always got rid of the feeling.
" Washington said I might have to court him..." ben looked up at me with lots of emotions in his look. his face was turning red. his eyes were full of concern but he looked angry but at the same time, embarrassed.
"ben, a-are you o-ok?"
"I'm so sorry, you're an amazing, radiant woman. you deserve better." his voice was full of guilt.
I felt my cheeks heat up, it was a compliment after all.
"Thanks, ben, but it's for the cause right?" I asked, my tone was certain but questioning, but I wasn't looking for an answer. ben and I finished breakfast and ben took out the plates and tins and went to get them put away. I waited in the tent patiently, deep in thought. but I was interpreted by a man bursting in.
"TALLMADGE- O- oh, sorry madam, have you seen major Tallmadge? it's urgent."
" he should be back any minute now, you can stay in here if you'd like."
the man only nodded as I analyzed him, he had a generals uniform on and ginger hair. not much else that was unusual. I got up to sit on the cot and patted the spot next to me to let him know that he should sit there. he walked over and sat next to me.
"so, what's your name?" I asked, he turned to face me.
he held out a hand for me to shake.
"alexander hamilton, Washington's aide de camp."
"very nice to meet you, sir." I chirped back, taking his hand.
I shook his hand, but he didn't let go of mine.
"and you?" ahh, he was asking for my name, of course.
"y/n, y/n l/n," I replied. he smiled at me and let go of my hand.
ben came back into the tent and noticed hamilton there.
"Tallmadge, I need to speak with you its urgent." hamilton said while standing from the cot.
"u- uh" ben stammered, he shot me a puzzled look and I shrugged.
"y/n, umm, wait here." ben said, I nodded. they walked out and I could only hear whispers coming from outside the tent.
I wonder what they are talking about...

so, my computer started acting up and deleted some of this chapter and I fixed it as much as I could but I forgot exactly what I wrote, so just know that's why this chapter is really bad.
