Still ben.
I woke up to the sunlight pouring into the tent, odd. Wait, the tent flap is open, what.
I got up from the ground still half asleep and shut the tent flap. I look over to my desk to see a frowning adam. I gave him a 'ha ha very funny' look. He smirked and wrote in a book that I hadn't seen until that very moment.
"Never took you for a writer" I spoke, pointing at the book.
"Picked up writing one day when I decided to write to you."
He wrote to me? I never got a letter, maybe I read it and cant remember.
"Y-you wrote a letter?." I stumbled over my words, trying to ignore the pit in my chest. His smirk started to fall back to a frown but this time he was serious.
"I take you never read it"
"I-im s-sorry adam, I don't think I ever got it..."
He looked disappointed but still flashed me a smile, he turned back to his writing. I felt terrible, adam was a ray of sunshine but now... it's like I shattered his soul.
It was still early, but I had lots of work todo today. I went to go look for my uniform before I realized I was still wearing it. Adam snickerd at me when I mentally face palmed.
"I was waiting for you to notice~"
"Yeah yeah ok"
I fixed my uniform and pulled my hair back into a slick ponytail.
I looked at adam, he had stopped writing and he set his paper aside to let dry. He glanced at me and frowned. I really hurt him bad, I felt disgusting.
I love adam, we had been friends forever. I could never trade him for anything. When he got here I remembered how good of a friend he was to me, I really care for him.
My thoughts were inturupeted when adam walked past me and opend the tent flap.
"You've been standing awhile, hope your alive. Ima get breakfast." He said walking out.
My face heated up in emebarsement, when I'm thinking do I really just.... freeze?
Damn.
I went to where adam was sitting when he was writing to read his letter.
He was writing to a woman.
My face sorta fell, but I was also happy that he found somone. But something in me shattered but then was quickly pulled back together. It was an odd feeling, but it made me think differently about adam, maybe for the better. Her name was... y/n? But during the letter he started calling her by a nickname, but I had already had a friend with that nickname, so I just brushed it off and read it with her name.
(A/n/n = Adam's nick name for you)My dearest y/n~
I arrived safely at camp and found an old friend whom I believe you dont know, you two will meet one day but I'm not to dwell on the topic right now. Washington seems to not be as serious as we both thought he would be, I still haven't talked to him about having woman in camp, but surely I will try and convince him. We met Margaret (peggy) shippen in Philadelphia, she is a fine young woman and is true to be the most beautiful woman in the colonies. Though, knowing you, you would definitely scoff once you read that sentence. But, a/n/n, you would fit right in with the people here at camp. You would make an amazing soldier a/n/n, hope you will one day meet up with Washington and that he will make you a part of camp.Sincerely,
Addie(Addie was your nickname for adam)
I smiled at the letter, he truly has good friends. And he really is a great friend, y/n has no idea how lucky she is to have adam as her friend, god, I didn't know how lucky I was untill this very moment.
Also, addie?I was trying to hold back a chuckle at the thought of someone calling adam 'addie'. But instead of the chuckle, a huge smile formed on my face. But as If on cue.
"Hey benny I-"
Adam bursted in and quickly walked out, I saw his face turn bright red. He saw I read the letter. I couldn't hold back a laugh so I just let it out.
He came back in with his face down and his back slightly slouched. I can tell his face was still red.
"You read it didn't you."
" I sure did addie~"
" you cant call me addie."
He seemed serious, but he looked up at me and the blush on his face started to fade.
"S-sorry" I squeaked back
Adam sighed and spoke,
"Sorry benny, its just... I miss her, shes like my best friend. And that was her special name for me. Shes the reason I'm here."
I looked back at him, his eyes were watering. I could tell he missed her and that he was homesick.
I walked over to him and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, he looked up at me. I tenderly smiled at him. He smiled back and quickly looked down.
"Sorry, I'm not a... what do they call it? 'A man'" adam spoke jokingly
I snickered.
"Adam, it's ok. She was important to you, it's ok to cry. It's human, dont be embarrassed. Hell, I breakdown in the tent all the time." I said, there was only truth in my statement.
He laughed and smiled at me and seemed to calm down.
He went over to the letter and folded it into an envelope shape. He reached into his bag to get a stick of wax, a wax stamp and a match. He lit the candle on the desk and melted the wax, he quickly placed it on the seal of the letter and pressed his stamp into it.(I imagine it to look like this but the seal is red)
And we moved on with the day.
