Lunch... Roman's least favorite time of the day. Or at least it was until Virgil. Roman was sitting there in his princely persona, chatting about with the people who flocked to him as Patton sat beside him. Roman was already feeling a tad jealous. 'One time Virgil saw this tiny bird and just smiled. It was the cutest little smile. He doesn't smile often.' 'Virgil and I went for ice cream the other day at this one place. He got green mint chip and totally got brain freeze. It was so funny.' 'Virgil and I usually have a special dinner night every weekend. That week we went out and i got him to try sushi. He was acting like a total child but he couldn't lie to me. I know he liked it.' Roman was trying really hard to hold himself back, but his mind was reeling. Patton and Virgil are very close... too close for his comfort. All these things Patton talks about... Roman wanted to be the one to experience them.
"Patton thank god for your here already!" Roman jumped as Virgil launched himself into Patton, the blonde looking incredibly worried as Virgil shook. "Last class was a nightmare. I swear Mrs. D'laney just wants that stupid bounty. They brought up Olivia." Roman watched in confusion as Patton's eyes went wide.
"Wait, Olivia Warren. That woman who was..."
"Yeah, her." Virgil shivered as he pulled away from Patton and Roman frowned seeing how puffy the kid's eyes were. He wanted to snap. Virgil was upset. Someone had to have upset him. Which means Roman had to... no. No, Roman. You have to calm down. "I pretty much snapped and went all lecture mode on them. It doesn't matter it's just..." Roman could see Virgil itching at his arm with nerves but he just looked away. "Have any luck finding a good place for the panic room yet?"
"No, I haven't. Why do you need to..." Virgil just shook his head.
"I'd just feel better knowing I have one. I'll look later though. I got a free period after Drama." Roman just sat there watching as Virgil took his seat. He wanted to run over there and comfort him make him feel better and happy again but... to many people... to many eyes. Roman sighed as he started pushing his food around no longer paying attention to anything the other students were saying to him. He felt a hand go to his arm and he looked over to see Patton giving him this concerned look.
"Roman are you even listening to me?!" Roman clenched his hand around his fork as he looked up at this girl named Lydia. She was a bitch. Her soft redish brown eyes scoured every inch of him as Roman smiled at her. "I understand you lost your boyfriend but that no reason to be an ass."
"Um, actually..." Roman tensed as the soft voice across from him reached his ears. "I think he has every right to ignore a dumb bitch like you." Lydia gasped as Virgil smirked over at her. He was twirling his knife around in his fingers itching to do something with it but he just laughed. "Especially is you think your ego takes precedence over his grief."
"Why don't you shut up? This has nothing to do with a freak like you." Virgil tensed, his skin crawling as he clutched the knife blade so tightly it cut into his skin. No one calls him a freak. They don't last long when they do.
"V-Virgil?" Roman noticed that blank look in the other as Patton tried to get his attention. Lydia tried to get Roman's attention by snapping in his face and Roman couldn't hold back the groan. The look in her eyes only proved she was livid.
"Lydia, I think this conversation is over. Please see to it that you return to your own table." Roman smiled as he looked up to see Logan standing directly behind the girl with an eyebrow raised as he glanced about the table. The first thing Logan noticed was Virgil's state. He sighed as he moved aside letting Lydia run off screeching about disrespect. Logan couldn't care in the slightest. Logan grabbed some tissues and preceded to take Virgil's hand who jumped but calmed down seeing who it was. Virgil slowly let go of the knife and Patton gasped. Logan didn't turn to see Roman's expression. He could already imagine what it was. Virgil's hand was cut pretty bad and he'd have to go to the nurse. Even if it was just to let the school know what happened. Logan cleaned it as best he could before meeting Virgil's blank eyes. "I'll take you to the nurse if that's ok with you?" Virgil only nodded.
"K-Kiddo?" Virgil stood up with a frown and shook his head ignoring Patton's fearful expression. "Are you sure? I could..."
"I don't need it yet." Logan tensed as Patton nodded and turned back to the table. Roman was watching with narrowed eyes. Every so often they would glance over at Lydia several tables away and all Logan could do was shake his head but that wouldn't do anything. "Let's go, Logan. I got art in a few."
"Speaking of art... Hows Roman being?" Logan finally broke the silence as they walked through the nearly empty halls towards the nurse's office.
"Annoying." Logan glanced over to see Virgil's face still blank and he frowned.
"What are you're thoughts on him?" Virgil laughed and shook his head. Logan couldn't tell if that was good or not.
"Did he ask you to check up on me?" Logan narrowed his eyes as Virgil smiled softly. "Because if he did you both can fuck off."
"He didn't. I asked of my own curiosity. I would like to know what you think of Roman... and Remus both."
"Remus is a moron." Logan tensed as Virgil laughed again. "But only because he isn't letting people see he isn't. He's afraid of not being accepted for who he is." Logan's eyes widened as Virgil pressed on. "You on the other hand are... Well, I don't hate you."
"Thanks." Virgil laughed again and Logan chuckled softly a bit too.
"Besides Patton, I don't really have friends. However, I would say you're probably the closest I've gotten to making one. You're afraid of people not taking you seriously... of being push aside and ignored." Logan froze in his spot, causing Virgil to stop to with a soft smile. "That won't happen with me. When I care about people... I never let them go."
'I never let them go.' Logan's eyes went wide as Roman's voice filled his mind. 'When I find someone... I fall and I never let them go.'
"My friends are the only family I have." Logan shivered slightly seeing that familiar look in Virgil's eyes. "So don't worry... Not even Roman could get rid of me." Virgil laughed as he started walking again leaving Logan there stunned. "He couldn't push me away even if he wanted to."
"Trust me he doesn't want to." Logan whispered as Virgil disappeared. "But I don't know if that a good thing yet."
