(Kadynce's POV)
We pulled up in front of my parents' house, and immediately, I felt a wave of guilt, fear, and embarrassment.
Guilty; I have not included them in on my life. I have not told them that they have grandchildren. I was the worst kind of daughter there is.
Fear: what if after finding out that I had their grandchildren, they push me away. Or worse; hate me. I cannot under any circumstances have my parents hate me. I'd rather them tell me to go away and never come back.
And embarrassment; I'm downright ashamed to reveal this piece of my life. I have kept it hidden from them for so long that I don't know how to behave or respond.
"Listen, Kady." Jake spoke low but harsh. I cut the engine as my nerves began to get the best of me. "Everything that happened in North Carolina stays in North Carolina. We stay for a week with no incidents, and we head back home." He told me as I nodded. "So, keep your fucking mouth shut."
I don't know if I listened to anything that Jake was saying. I just nodded at him to let him know that I heard him.
Robotically, I opened the driver door to get out.
Immediately, I helped Jason from his car seat. "Mommy." He smiled at me, placing his hand to my cheek. "Pretty mommy."
I would say that he's picking up on my nervous behavior.
"Thank you." I beamed at him. "My baby boy." I cooed, laying my forehead against his. "I love you." I told him before placing him on his feet on the sidewalk.
Nikki unbuckled herself from the passenger side and escaped the car with a little bit of Jake's help.
Nikki and Jake have always been a weird relationship. He doesn't try to chastise her, but she doesn't exactly go out of her way to talk or interact with him. She stays clear of him especially when he is in one of his moods.
It's like she doesn't even like him...
"Mommy, who lives here?" Nikkol asked me as she walked beside me and grabbed my other hand, Jason held the other.
"Papa and Nana live here." I told her.
She let out a small gasp. "I have grandparents?" Nikki beamed up at me.
I frowned. "Yeah baby, you and Jase."
Taking several deep breaths, we all walked up the steps to my parents' front door, my two babies by my sides. As I knocked, my stomach turned in knots. Monstrous butterflies filled my insides and made it impossible to not feel sick.
"Remember what I told you." Jake reminded me just as we heard the lock turn.
The front door swung open, and the first person that I wanted to see stood right on the other side of it.
Tall...
Handsome...
And mine.
A small whimpered slipped passed my lips. "Daddy." I sighed as I could feel my chest tightening and a lump rise in my throat, I almost couldn't breathe.
He looked that same as how I left him, but I didn't miss the grey in his beard. He aged just a bit, and it fits him well.
"Grandpa!" Nikki yelled, running as he hand slipped from mine.
"Nikkol!" I scolded her.
She ran to my dad as if she has known him her whole life. But just as she ran to him, he scooped her up and into his arms like he has known her all his life. Hugging him around his neck, she buried her face in his shoulder as he slowly rubbed her back.
