XV.

RENJUN

I was at work for a long time. Nothing much happened, it's the same shit since I started working here 4 months ago.
I was sitting at my desk, completely alone, but I was totally okay with it.
As I was writing somthing on my laptop, someone tapped my shoulder. 'Huang Renjun! Isn't it so nice to see you?'
As I realized the voice, I didn't look at him. 'Fuck off.'
'No, thanks, I don't wanna get kicked out.'
I turned around surprised. 'You work here?'
'Yeah why-'
I started laughing. Like seriously? 'Na Jaemin, you work here?'
'It's not even that funny.' He frowned.
But I couldn’t stop laughing. After a minute Jaemin crossed his arms and stared at me angrily. 'That's highly offensive, you know.'
I took a big breath to stop and wiped my tears. 'Thanks mate, I haven't laughed that much long ago.'
'I'm glad I could help.' Jaemin said ironically but I just shook it off.
'Are you new here? I didn't see you before.'
'I started a week ago.' he shrugged.
'I see. It's a pretty crappy work but you gotta used to it.' I said as I turned back to writing.
'Anyways, how are you bro? I didn't see you for ages!' Jaemin dragged a chair and sat next to me.
'Don't you have work to do?' I answered, not looking at him.
Jaemin huffed. 'I start at 11 only. I just came in to discover the building. I don't wanna get lost, ya know.'
'Yeah. But please don't break into my office next time.'
'Haha, alright, sorry. By the way, do you know something about Hyuckie? I didn't meet him in a while.'
I turned to him slowly and blinked. 'Jaemin are you really this dumb or someone helps you?'
'What?'
'A month ago you wanted to meet but I said I can't go because Hyuck and me have to buy something for our new flat. We're like living together, man.'
'Really...? -oh I remember now. Hehe, sorry. ' he gave me an embarrassed smile while rubbing his neck.
'No worries, I'm used to it.' I chuckled and turned back to my laptop. The other boy slapped my arm. 'You ass! And how's the moving?'
I shrugged my shoulders. 'Nothing special. I'm with people I know and it's not like I didn't live in a block in Seoul before.'
Jaemin nodded. 'Understandable.'
'What about you and Nayoung by the way?'
The guy raised his eyebrows. 'Who?'
I repeated. Jaemin stayed silent for  seconds then looked at me with a confused look. 'She has a boyfriend for more than a year now.'
'But you broke up like a months ago-'
Jaemin frowned then started laughing. 'Oh you meant Dahee! Nayoung is just her friend, we dated in high school in our junior year!'
I slowly nodded. Seriously, Jaemin and his chicks. 'Okay then. What about Dahee?'
Jaemin sighed. 'She works in a café and probably lives her best life.'
I frowned. 'How do you know where she works?'
'Connections. It's all about connections, you know.'
I stared at him. 'You aren't serious, are you?'
He sighed desperately. 'Actually, I met Nayoung a week ago and she said Dahee and her are working there.'
'Which café?'
He looked at me weirdly but answered anyways. 'Sunset, why?'
'It's pretty far so you don't have to go there, there are many cafés much closer to our workplace.'
Jaemin nodded.
'You're still not over her, right?'
'I don't think so.... But it doesn't matters anyways. She probably has a boyfriend and lives her happily ever after while I'm just an old high school memory in her brain covered with dust!' Jaemin bursted out, almost screaming the last part. He leaned forward during speaking. When he finished, he threw himself back into the chair.
'Jesus, calm down.' I put my hand on his shoulder. 'Look I know I'm not the best person for this...But if you need any help, you can count on me.' He gave me a light smile. Looks like talking about Dahee really brought him down.
Suddenly we heard my office's door open.
A familiar face put his head inside. My boss. Ugh.
'I'm glad you already made new friends, Mr. Na.'
'We're high school friends, sir.' Jaemin bowed, still sitting. I followed his moves.
'High school friends. Very nice. Now start working, both of you.'
Jaemin sighed then stood up. 'I need to go. Wanna have lunch together?'
I nodded.
'Alright, then I'll come here at 2 pm. See you soon!' he waved and left the room.
