Carolina's lips were soft and sweet, and Cricket wouldn't deny that it was probably the best first kiss she could have ever had. Their mouths worked smoothly against each other, and the brunette was surprised she even knew what she was doing, because everything she thought she knew came from watching sappy romance movies on late-night television.
Time was lost as the two shared this little act of endearment, but Cricket didn't care. Somehow or another, her hands had tangled themselves in Carolina's golden blonde hair, and the other girl's arms were around her waist, tugging her closer.
God, Cricket never felt so alive...
It was moments later when the pair had to break for air, and they were left staring down at each other with such intensity that it made the bronze haired girl's heart flip flop in her chest.
"You kissed me..." Carolina breathed, almost as if she didn't believe what had just happened. And honestly? Cricket was having trouble believing it, too.
"I did," She confirmed, a blush crawling onto her cheeks. "You kissed me back."
"I did..." The blonde echoed, and her hands began to slide up Cricket's back. "I want to do it again."
Cricket shivered at her touch, but she didn't deny the girl's request. Closing her eyes, she let her lips find Carolina's again.
Because of how much she adored their first kiss, Cricket didn't think it could get any better. But any hesitation the girls might've had during the intial one had been swept away, and they were left hungrily kissing each other right there, surrounded by a mess of Uno cards and game rage long forgotten.
She didn't even think about what anyone might think, or what would happen between them now until after their second kiss had ended about thirty seconds later, both of them slightly dizzy. Carolina rolled to her side, bringing Cricket with her as she did so. For a long while after that, they lay there just gazing at each other.
The blonde's mouth opened to speak, but then there was a knock on her bedroom door. Carolina's dad's voice drifted through the wooden entryway as he spoke.
"Girls? Someone is here to see you."
Both frowning at the same time, they pulled away from each other and clammered to their feet. They left the mess of playing cards on the floor as they made their way out of the room and to the living room, where Cricket's eyebrow rose at who had apparently come to see them.
"Danny?" Carolina spoke, echoing Cricket's thoughts in a slightly less-harsh tone. "What are you doing here?"
The blond boy was standing by the door, almost as if he was ready to bolt at a moment's notice. His hands were wringing each other close to his chest, and he didn't meet either of the girls' gazes as he spoke. "I just wanted to make sure you were okay."
Now Carolina's eyebrow arched, and she crossed her arms over her chest as she eyed the male. "Didn't I tell you in the hospital not to bother coming around again?"
Danny's eyes moved to her's now, and there was a frown etched onto his lips. "I felt bad, Borgenson. I almost got you killed. Am I not allowed to-"
"It was my fault," Carolina said simply. "And don't call me by my last name, thanks. Come on, Cricketot."
The girl had turned and was heading back to her room, but stopped when she realized Cricket wasn't following her. The brunette had instead walked towards the boy, who seemed like he was going to back away before he remembered he was supposed to be manly.
Cricket's lips were moving like she wanted to say something to Danny, but though she had several ideas in mind, she had to remind herself that Carolina's parents were in the house, probably listening in and thinking the boy was one of the girls' boyfriends.
Never in a million fucking years.
Instead of speaking, Cricket just glared at the boy for a good minute before she decided she had intimidated him enough. Turning up her nose, she walked back over to Carolina, who was waiting for her by the hallway.
It really wasn't that much Danny's fault, and both girls knew this. But the blonde had hung out with him on impulse, deciding just a little too late that she'd rather be with Cricket, and Cricket hated anyone who had anything to do with harm coming to her best friend.
There was also the fact that she had just kissed Carolina twice, and was anxious to know where the future would take them now, but she wasn't going to voice that out loud, especially to Danny.
"Don't come back." Carolina said, and they left the boy standing alone in the living room.
Once they were safely inside of the golden haired girl's own room again, Cricket moved to pick up the Uno cards, and Carolina collapsed onto her bed and exhaled loudly, running her hands through her hair.
The cards now neatly back inside of their box, Cricket laid down next to her friend on her stomach, resting her head on her folded arms as her eyes watched the other's.
"This is so hard..." Carolina mumbled after a few moments, her own arms crossed over her face.
Cricket had a pretty good idea of what she was talking about, because for the life of her she could not get those kisses out of her head. But still, she needed to be sure. "Huh?"
"This..." The blonde said quietly, and then gestured between them. "You, me, us... We're supposed to be best friends."
She frowned, not sure she was understanding the girl correctly. "We are, aren't we?"
"No, I just..." Carolina sighed. "We are, I mean..." She seemed to stumble over her words for several seconds longer, causing red to tint her cheeks.
Cricket raised a hand to reach out and comfort her best friend, but she wasn't so sure that was a good idea. Besides, at the same time she had moved, the girl had finally formed a coherent sentence.
"I shouldn't want you like I do."
