Over the course of the next few days, Cricket rarely left Carolina's side. The only time she left was to go home to shower, and she'd return two hours later with McDonalds and little things she'd find at the hospital gift shop.

Carolina was feeling much better. It was decreed that she had a moderate concussion, and that she may exhibit the symptons for up to a few months, but needed to be extremely careful. Other than that, it was as if the accident had never happened.

The following Tuesday, the blonde was released from the hospital and taken home. She was told to stay out of school for the rest of the week, and Cricket had decided to stay home too, ignoring Carolina's protests.

Her parents had insisted on staying home, but Cricket promised them that she could look after their daughter and promised to contact the two if anything happened. Reluctantly, they agreed, leaving the two girls home by themselves for the rest of the week.

On Thursday afternoon, Cricket was in the kitchen making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for her best friend while the latter resided in the living room, stretched out on the couch. Carolina preferred the couch to her room whenever she was sick, and because Cricket was hell-bent on making sure the girl was okay at all times, she took up the spot on the recliner.

The sandwich made, she carried it into the living room and passed it to her blonde friend before plopping down on the couch, mindful of the girl's legs. She ate in silence and set the plate on the coffee table before giving a yawn, and when Cricket got up to take the plate to the kitchen, Carolina held up a hand.

"Wait a minute," She said, sounding confused. "Didn't we have school today?"

Cricket sighed. Due to her concussion, Carolina was forgetting little things. The brunette wasn't exactly impatient, but this was the second time the girl had asked since they woke up.

"No, we're off for the week." She said softly. "Does your head hurt?"

Carolina shrugged. "No. I'm tired though."

"You can sleep if you want. I'll just go-"

"Will you sleep with me?"

The question caught Cricket off guard. "Huh?"

She turned her gaze to the girl just as she held out her arms. "I want us to nap. Together. Please."

Cricket couldn't deny the butterflies in her stomach, and she abandoned the plate on the table and went straight into Carolina's arms, cuddling up to her as they got comfortable on the couch.

The blonde sighed in content as she rested her chin on Cricket's head, holding her tightly. She was quiet for a bit, but when she spoke again, it made the brunette shiver.

"I love you, you know that?"

Sure, they had told each other they loved the other many times, but this time...it seemed different. It could easily be blamed on Carolina's concussion, but the tone of her voice...

Cricket's breath caught in her throat, and she swallowed hard before responding. "I love you too, Carebear."

But Carolina had already fallen asleep.

For the rest of the week, Cricket continued to care for her best friend. Already she was forgetting to forget things, as the brunette liked to think of it. Carolina had seemed to also forget what she had said to her right before they'd fallen asleep that Thursday afternoon, which suited Cricket just fine.

She still didn't know what to make of it.

They were seemingly back to normal by Sunday afternoon, but Carolina was obviously still 'sick.' Currently, they were playing a game of Uno. It never ended well when the two of them played, but they never got tired of it.

Carolina made the last play needed to win the game, and Cricket slammed down her cards.

"You fucking cheated!" She pouted, crossing her arms like a child.

"Did not," the blonde said, poking out her tongue. "You're the one who dealt the cards."

She was quiet for a long moment. "Don't remind me."

This earned a laugh from her best friend, which made Cricket smile slightly herself. Carolina caught this and flicked a card at her, and soon there were cards flying all around the room and the two girls were squealing.

Somehow or another, they ended up wrestling, and it was when Cricket was on top when she remembered Carolina's condition and paused. A final card landed on her friend's hair, and the brunette reached down to pick it off when their eyes met.

Time seemed frozen at that moment, green orbs locked on hazel ones, and Cricket couldn't breathe.

Carolina whispered something then, and it took a few moments before what was said registered in the other girl's now fuzzy brain.

"Kiss me?"

Now, it could have just been the blonde's concussion talking, but Cricket couldn't stop her instincts from taking over. She leaned down, down, even further down until their lips were so damn close to touching...

And then she closed the tiny gap, and Cricket kissed her best friend.
