For the next few weeks, things were perfect. Upon hearing the news of her two best friends being together, Riley promptly bear hugged them and promised to be the best girl at their wedding. The couple awkwardly thanked her, and then asked her to keep it secret, at least for now. The black haired girl agreed, and they went on their way.

For the most part, nothing was different. They were still them, and they really did the same things they always did, with the exception of more holding hands and kissing. The two had been especially careful to avoid being open about their relationship around Carolina's parents. Neither would too sure of what would happen if they were to find out.

And Cricket didn't really want to add looking for a new place to live to her evergrowing list of things she needed to get done.

With their junior year rapidly coming to a close, the two girls were forced to start thinking of college. Cricket wanted to go to film school, to one day become a director, whereas Carolina was thinking of studying to go into the criminal justice field. Even if, by the slim chance they found a college that had both majors and they were both accepted, they would most certainly be heading off in different directions after they graduated.

If hired, Cricket would more than likely be moving to California. Carolina could go anywhere.

Though it was hard, they did their best not to think about it just yet. The time would come, but for now they just wanted to enjoy being in high school. Being together.

So late one Saturday night in March, as they curled up next to each other on the couch to watch a few episodes of Criminal Minds. Ironic, considering this was one of the things that got Carolina interested in her field, but Cricket knew she loved it. She didn't care if she didn't like something - as long as it made her girlfriend happy, it was okay to her.

They were half-sitting, half-laying on the plump furniture, with Carolina in Cricket's arms and their legs tangled together on the opposite end of the couch. To anyone else, it probably looked uncomfortable. But this was how they liked to be, entwined in each other's presence.

It was during a commercial that Carolina lifted her head to look up at her girl, leaning it back against the brunette's shoulder. "Hey?"

Having been slightly dozing off, it took a few seconds for the blonde's voice to register in Cricket's fuzzy mind. "Hmm?"

"I love you." She said cutely, batting her eyelashes at the now skeptical girl.

"What do you want?" Cricket asked immediately, eyes narrowing the tiniest bit. Carolina only told the girl she loved her when she wanted something. It was never anything bad, and Cricket was not irritated, not at all. Only curious.

"See, I've got this terrible condition," Carolina began, plastering on the dramatic act. "My stomach is trying to eat itself. How tragic, right? But if a beautiful girl named Cricket makes me food, I'll survive."

At this, the brunette chuckled. "Just me? What if I called upon the great and powerful King of Burgers to fix you?"

Carolina shook her head. "Nope. Only Cricket food. No King of Burgers. Just Cricket."

Cricket continued to chuckle, but she gently nudged the blonde off of her lap so she could get up herself. Once standing, she leaned down and pecked Carolina briefly on the lips. "Be right back, my drama queen."

Now it was Carolina's turn to laugh, and she playfully swatted Cricket's ass as the girl turned to head to the kitchen. "Still your queen. Something good, please!"

Not bothering with a response, Cricket set straight to finding something to cook for her girlfriend. After a brief investigation of the cupboards, she settled on making macaroni and cheese. It had been both their favorites since they were kids, and the pair never grew tired of eating it.

Halfway through boiling the noodles, Cricket felt a pair of warm arms wrap around her waist. A smile immediately found her lips, and she subconsciously leaned into the girl's embrace.

"Hi." She whispered, her head tilting back so that Carolina could kiss her lips.

After doing just that, Carolina chuckled. "You need any help?"

"What, you think I'm going to burn down the house?"

"No!" Carolina laughed, though she was obviously lying. "Just wanted to be nice. And helpful."

"You know, in over ten years, I don't ever remember you making this for us."

"It's because you're so good at it." She insisted, resting her chin on the brunette's shoulder.

"Someone's sucking up tonight," Cricket teased, nudging the blonde away so that she could drain the noodles. "I think you want more than just mac and cheese."

She could practically hear the smirk in her girlfriend's voice then, because her back was still to the other. "Maybe...." A small gasp left Cricket's lips as she felt hands sliding down her sides and coming to a rest on the front of her old pajama pants. "Maybe I do..."

"Babe," The brunette groaned, her body already shivering. "Do you want this mac and cheese or not...?"

The hands immediately left her pants, and after giving her girlfriend a few moments to compose herself, Carolina grinned. "I do. But I want you too."

"After, I swear." Cricket promised, because just that simple action was enough to kick her hormones into overdrive.

"Fine, I'll behave." Carolina whispered, though her tone was seductive. The other girl hurried to finish mixing the cheese into the noodles, and they were sitting at the table eating within no time. Cricket was practically cramming bite after bite into her mouth, obviously eager to get the meal out of the way so they could get on to whatever Carolina had planned for after.

Cricket had a clue, but her girlfriend was unpredictable. Many times during the last several months, they had started to get intimate, but they either stopped themselves or were interuppted. It was frustrating for Cricket especially, because though she wasn't in a rush, she definitely wanted to know her girlfriend inside and out. Know the way her body worked, what made her go crazy the most.

Soon, she kept telling herself. And maybe tonight, they would finally get to make each other writhe.

Once they had finished eating, Carolina took their bowls to the sink and put the leftovers away for later. Cricket fidgeted anxiously in her seat, impatiently waiting for what was sure to come. It really hadn't taken that long, and the blonde was crossing the floor to her within minutes.

Cricket immediately got to her feet, her hands gripping her girl's sleeves as arms came to wrap around her waist. She shivered at the hands on her ass, her body quickly responding to the touch. Lips met hers soon after, and she didn't hesitate a second as she kissed her girlfriend back. It was amazing, really, how synchronized the girls' bodies seemed to be. They moved like magnets, always to accomadate the other.

The blonde's tongue had just snaked its way into her mouth, hands had just started sliding up her shirt, when the expected distraction forced its way between them.

From Carolina's pocket, her phone had started to ring. Cricket's body had slumped, arms wrapping around herself as she stepped away to give the other girl room. They shot annoyed yet apologetic glances to each other as Carolina answered her phone without bothering to check who it was.

"Hello?" She said, and then seemed to stare off into space for a while. Several moments passed, and it was obvious whoever was calling had a story to tell.

But then something seemed to shift, and Carolina paled visibly. Cricket stepped forward at once, taking the girl's hand. The blonde dropped the phone at the same time, and her body began to fall towards the floor.

With a surprised gasp, Cricket caught her and sank to the ground as well, pulling the shaking girl into her lap. "Baby, what happened? Who was it?"

For several terrifying seconds, there was nothing but the sound of Carolina's shuddering breaths.

"R-Riley..." She finally choked out, turning her bewildered gaze to her girlfriend's face. "S-She's dead..."
