When she had found out that her parents were dead, Cricket felt the oxygen leave her body. It was as if the entire world was crashing down around her, and she was being struck with the wreckage.
She felt this now, unable to comprehend the news given to her. It took nearly two minutes after Carolina had spoken to be able to even form a coherent thought.
"What?" Cricket croaked in disbelief. "No...no way... Not Riley."
This was enough to send Carolina into tears, her sobs racking her body. Cricket wanted to hug her tight, to comfort her, but she didn't even know how to react herself.
Their best friend was dead. Dead. Gone.
They had just seen her not even twenty four hours ago. There was no way. No way.
"Sh-she was killed..." Carolina choked, voice muffled as her face was buried in Cricket's chest. "They found her in an a-alley....She had been raped, too...."
This news chilled the brunette to the core, her own body shaking. Who would do such a thing to such a sweet girl? Sure, Riley had her moments... But she didn't deserve this...
Cricket began to cry too, her face against her girlfriend's neck. So many thoughts were racing through her head, so many questions that she couldn't voice. And even if she could, she wasn't sure they could be answered.
