"Well, it was nice meeting you," I said the same line for the eighth time. I stood up, holding my hand out for the lady across from me to grab. I've done this so many times, my back was starting to hurt. Besides that, the evaluations are going smoother than expected. I already burned through eight people, although none of them were up to par with my expectations, all of them were pretty and had nice personalities. But let's also forget the five that tried to hit on me after evaluations were over. It's a tiring process, but "it will be worth it", according to Sean.
I went to pull my hand away from the woman, but she held on tightly, eyeing me closely. I mentally sighed, believing she's another one who wants to get with me. Ma'am, I really don't have the time for this...
"잠깐만. 한국사람이에요?/ Wait a minute. Are you Korean?" I was taken back at the sudden at the sudden language change, staring at the woman with a blank face as I translated the sentence in my head as quickly as I could. I didn't mention I was Korean, so I wondered how she found out.
"어, 네. 당신은? / Uh, yes. Are you?" I mentally cringed at my awkward pronunciation. It's been a long time since I last studied the language with mom, and now I'm being put on the spot, all my knowledge on the Korean language has ceased to exist my brain. Nevertheless, the woman smiled proudly, nodding her head.
"내. 나는 2 년 전에 미국에 왔습니다. 그래서 나는 여전히 새로운 사람입니다./ Yes. I came to America two years ago, so I'm still new." I nodded my head in agreement, bowing slightly to welcome her to America. The woman bowed back. Besides my difficulty understanding, it was nice to test my Korean again. The black haired woman and I walked to the glass doors, and I opened the door for her as she put on her leather jacket that blended in with her black outfit.
"다 끝나면 삼겹살을 같이 먹자. 당신에 대해 더 배우고싶어./ When you're done, let's go eat pork belly together. I want to know more about you." I chuckled when she winked at me, then bowed to her as she existed the office. I sighed, running my hand through my brown locks, slowly losing all hope in humanity. I honestly thought I found a person who wants to be friends since I understand her native language, but turns out she used that skill to ask me out. Don't get me wrong - it was an outstanding move, I was 95% convinced she had good intentions, but now that I know her motive, it definitely won't receive the reaction you're looking for.
I walked back over to my side of the big glass desk, and briefly scanned through all applications I went through already before placing them in a neat pile. I did the same for the applications I still have yet to go through, and that pile was bigger than I hoped. Suddenly, my phone started ringing.
"Hello?"
"Good morning Mark~ How's my beautiful child-" A coughing fit erupted from the other side of the line. "..doing? How are your interviews going?" I only laughed.
"They're going good, I'm basically flying through applications. Are you okay, ma?" Her voice did sound nasally, which made me worry if she's sick.
"Yeah, I'm fine, don't worry about me-" She started to cough again. "...worry about your interviews. Has any of them catched your eye yet? With their slutty outfits and everything? Tell me, are you bringing any of them home?"
"Ma, I'm not that type of person..." I couldn't help but laugh, only because Sean said the same exact thing before I started. And this isn't the only time mom and my boss are in sync. I'm starting to think that they're one person. "Besides, the ones that I went through already all tried to hit-"
"Mr. Fischbach, your next applicant is here." Rose paged. "Jesus, how many do you have scheduled?"
"Too many to count. Send her up please." I replied. "Ma, I'll call you later- actually, I'm coming over tonight. Make something tasty."
"Will do baby. Love you."
"Love you too." I placed my phone in my back pocket after hanging up, making sure the area was clean like before and that I looked proper. Right at the moment I finished, a figure popped up from the corner of the eye, knocking on the glass door before entering. I couldn't help but notice how... unique the girl looked. Dark brown hair that was put in a half up, half down style, clothes that showed off more than I hoped for, and very tall - almost taller than me.
"So this is the secondary meeting room. Okay.." The woman mumbled to herself, and I chuckled. She looked up at me, and her brown eyes immediately stood out to me. "Good morning sir." She rushed and placed her hand out with a smile.
"Hello. I'm Mark Fischbach."
"Alexis Williams. Nice to meet you."

Getting out of my car, I sighed since I was mentally exhausted because of how much work I did today. I was having meetings after meetings, tested woman after woman, only for it to bog down to two girls: Ms. Kim - the woman who suddenly talked to me in Korean. She was an above average candidate, knew all the basics of the office, and what her duties will be if she got the job. I thought it would be funny to converse in Korean when others are around to make it seem like we're talking shit about them. The thing that threw me off was her sudden question about a date, that was a big no-no. On the other hand, Ms. Williams - was heavily knowledge on basic office manners, properly knew how to communicate with others and even had a good sense of humor. This would have certainly got her the job only if she dressed more modestly.
"Well, good thing I don't have to think about it until tomorrow..." I mumbled, walking to the front door of mom's home. I could already smell the delicious food that was on the stove. Ramen?
"Ma." I said when I entered after opening the door with my copy of the key. I was correct, she was sitting on the island while on her phone, with a pot in the middle and bowls on each side.
"Took you long enough, it's starting to get cold." She rolled her eyes and put her phone down. I walked up behind her, giving her a back hug and a kiss on the head while going over to the fridge to get water. I then mocked her sentence in a much higher and more annoying voice, moving to the side as she tried to hit me.
(me: *enters room*
y'all: *stops all conversation* *starts intensely at me*
me: *sweats* h-hey guys, long time no speak-
y'all: just give us the damn chapters.
me: will do. *exits room*)
