Mitch POV
It was a little over an hour and a half before Scott came back. I didn't blame him for needing some time to cool down after the story I'd told him. He walked back through the door, his face apologetic.
"I'm sorry," he said immediately, his voice soft.
I shook my head, "Don't apologize."
"I just-" he stopped, taking a deep breath. "I couldn't handle it," he admitted. "You have no idea how much I wish I could take your place. I can't stand the fact that you're in so much pain."
"Shh."
He came and sat down next to me, his face stressed.
"We don't have to discuss it anymore," I told him. "It's over. We're both okay. Hopefully telling you about this stops the nightmares. That's all I can hope for now."
He nodded, picking up my hand and kissing it gently.
"I love you," I said, my heart swelling with the overwhelming feelings I had toward him.
He smiled, although his eyes didn't match. "I love you too."
I repositioned myself on the bed, each movement uncomfortable. "Now," I said once I was finished. "It's time for you to get some rest."
I ran my finger under his tired eyes and he caught my hand in his.
"I'll get some rest when you do," he countered.
"I slept for a while after they arrested Trevor, remember?"
He sighed.
"Just go home and get some rest. Also, grab my laptop if you don't mind." I told him.
He hesitated, "I just don't want to leave you here alone."
I smiled, "I'll be fine, just go get some sleep."
He contemplated it for a moment. "Okay," he finally conceded. "But, I'll have my phone by my side the whole time. Call if you need anything, or if you just want me to come back. I'll be back in 3 hours tops."
I glared at him. "You need more than three hours of sleep. You look like you haven't slept in days."
"Three hours," he repeated stubbornly as he stood up and walked toward the door. "I love you," he said, and then he left, shutting the door quietly behind him.
I sat in silence after he was gone. I didn't want to watch any more TV and there really wasn't anything else to do. Then, Dr. Greer walked in. I recognized him because he was the first doctor I'd spoken to after waking up from surgery. I'd also noticed that he was the one who went and got Scott from the waiting room that first day.
