[AN: So none of you guessed right on who is in the hospital. You should have known I wouldn’t make it that easy for you all.]
[NORA’S POV]
Where was I? For that matter where was everyone else? Hadn’t I been with Louis headed for Big Ben? After that phone call we had raced off with Louis clumsily at the wheel to save Kate. So why was I in this hallway that seemed to go nowhere? The more I walked the longer it got.
“Isn’t there an end to this?” I asked hearing my voice echo around me. “Hello? Is anyone there?” That’s when I finally heard a response. There was noise at the end of the hall. I raced forward and finally it shortened until I came to a door. Wait. This was the door to the apartment back in Washington. How did I get to Washington? I’m supposed to be in London.
I turned the knob on the door entering the room. I looked around seeing my old apartment, but nothing had changed. It was like I had never moved out.
“Hello?” I called out. “Is anyone home?”
“Nora!” Annie called out walking towards me with a smile. “Where have you been? Long day at the office?”
“Um—no,” I stuttered out. “I was out with Louis looking for Kate.”
“Louis? Kate? Are they new coworkers?”
“No. Louis Tomlinson from One Direction and Kate, Sam’s sister.”
“Sam has a sister?” Annie asked wrinkling her nose in confusion.
“Who said One Direction?” Sam asked bouncing up to the door. “I would love to meet them one day!”
“One day?” I asked in confusion. But Sam was dating Liam. Annie was with Zayn. “We already met them.”
“Only in my dreams,” Sam said rolling her eyes. “Since you were late David made dinner, which means we ordered in pizza.” David? David was here?
“Nora bug?” I heard the familiar deep male rumble of his voice. Could it really be? I looked up as the man I saw only in my wedding pictures smiled at me from the entry way. “I ordered pineapple as a topping, but I still don’t get why you want to ruin good pizza with fruit.”
“David!” I called out rushing forward and wrapping my arms around him. He felt so solid and real. “You’re alive!”
“Of course I’m alive sweetheart,” he replied with a chuckle pulling me back. “It’s not like I fight fires all day. I work in a diner.” I placed my hands on his cheeks feeling the warmth and reality of his skin under my fingertips. He was really here. I hadn’t lost him.
“But the car accident,” I protested.
“Car accident?” Annie asked. “Maybe you should lie down sis. You look a little flushed.”
“She’s right,” David said sweeping me up into his arms. “You obviously need some rest.” I allowed him to carry me to my bedroom realizing that it was filled with all of his things. It was as if he had never left. I let him tuck me into bed and smiled when he kissed my forehead.
“I can’t believe you’re really here. It’s like some sort of dream,” I whispered stroking his face once again.
“It’s not a dream exactly,” David replied with a smile. “It’s more like a journey into your subconscious.”
“What?”
“I’m not real Nora bug. In reality I’m dead.”
“B-But—“
