It had been four hours since they left. Four freaking hours. I knew it was a stupid idea to let Haven go off with Damian, she was probably dead in a ditch right now, while Damian was off flying to Brazil. Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration, but I was still going to kick Damian’s ass when they got back. Or, if they got back, a small voice in my head whispered. I thought Aaron and Danny were just as nervous as I was, although they didn’t show it. Who wouldn’t be worried about Haven going off on a shopping spree with some sociopath?
Why was this getting to me so much? Oh, that’s right; the girl I love is spending time with Damian. I stopped as soon as I thought that. I did not love Haven. I knew that. I didn’t even think vampires could love, let alone love humans. But still, Haven made me feel so different that anyone else…
My thoughts were interrupted by the door of the dorm opening, and Haven walking in. Thankfully she was alone, I would have hated to get Damian’s blood all over the carpet. I rushed up from the couch to help her with all the bags she was carrying. God, did they buy the whole damn store? She gladly handed the bags over to me, before collapsing on the couch. I tossed them (as carefully as I could) onto the counter, before going to sit next to Haven.
“Are you okay?” Danny asked, eyeing her. He was sitting on the other side of her. I looked over at Haven, and wondered the same thing. She appeared extremely tired.
“Just exhausted.” she said, sighing. I raised my eyebrow at her, and she rolled her eyes.
“Have you ever gone dress shopping, Ryan? No, I don’t think so. Don’t judge me. It takes a lot more work than you would think.” She laughed, and before I knew what was happening, I found myself smiling at the sound of her laugh.
Once again, I was snapped back to reality as the door opened yet again. I looked up to find Aaron entering the dorm. His hair was windswept, and he seemed a little out of breath, I assumed he had just been hunting. His eyes immediately lit up as soon as he saw Haven, and when his eyes wandered to where I was sitting, I saw a tinge of jealousy in them. But I was probably just imagining it. Why would Aaron of all people be jealous of me sitting close to Haven? Surely he didn’t like her. I was just being paranoid.
“Oh good, my brother returned you alive. I assume he didn’t try to kill you or anything?” Aaron asked Haven pleasantly, though all signs of affection and jealousy were now gone.
“It wasn’t as bad as I actually expected. It actually went pretty well, considering I went shopping, in the city, with a perverted homicidal sociopath.” Haven said, smiling. I wish I knew if she was being sarcastic or not.
“What’s the plan for tonight?” I asked, not sure who I was addressing. It was Aaron that answered.
“Well we get dressed, and then go to the dance. Hopefully whatever attacked Haven won’t be there, there will be too many people. But we still need to keep a close eye on her; we don’t know what this thing is capable of.”
“I love it when you guys talk about me like I’m not here.” Haven said from the couch, which made me smile. Oh god, I was turning into mush. This was definitely not okay. “Oh I just thought of something!”
“What?” asked Aaron.
“I don’t have a date for the dance!” Haven exclaimed. Aaron and I both volunteered at the same time, and then shared an uneasy glance. Could Aaron really have feelings for Haven? I didn’t think Aaron was possible of having feelings for anyone. But then again, I had thought that about me too…
Haven glanced between both of us, a look of deep thought on her face.
“Hey Danny, have a date for the dance?” She asked my little brother, smirking. He shared a similar smirk. They sucked.
“It would be my pleasure to go with you, Haven.” he said, winking at her. I wanted to punch that smug smile right off his face.
