My teenage dream

We got to the apartment that helped us start this journey flustered and leaning against each other because we were laughing so hard we needed each other for support. Once we'd calmed down enough, Michael gestured towards the sofa "Wait here for me. I've got a surprise for you."

I'd just stopped caring by that point and plonked down on the leather sofa. On the other hand, when he took forever to get back to me, I started to get nervous. I knew why the apartment was empty, because Hannah had texted me earlier, but the place was still too quiet.

"You dead?" I shouted jokingly, not expecting an answer. What I got instead was a loud crash, the twang! of guitar strings and a muffled "I'm... okay!" Five minutes later, Michael vaulted the back of the sofa with an acoustic guitar. "I've learned this song recently and... I'd like to know what you think of it."

"You learned a song for me? Is this a surprise?" He didn't answer, he just started to strum the strings. You could tell that this was what he loved to do because of the evident passion he showed when he played anything. He wouldn't look at me, either because he was so into it or he was too nervous to look at my reaction.

This really must mean a lot to him.

It took me a moment to recognize the song, but when I did, it made me melt.

(The words that Mickey sings will be in bold, and the words Ellie sings will be in italics. If it's both of them, then the words will have both effects.)

I think you're pretty without any makeup on

I think you're funny when you tell the punch line wrong

You know you get me, so I let my walls come down, down

Before you met me, I was all right

But things were kinda heavy, you brought me to life

Now every February you'll be my valentine, valentine

Let's go all the way tonight

No regrets, just love

We can dance until we die

You and I will be young forever

Michael looked surprised that I'd started singing it with him, but also pleased that this performance had become a duet.

You make me feel like I'm living a teenage dream

The way you turn me on, I can't sleep

Let's run away and don't ever look back

Don't ever look back

My heart stops when you look at me

Just one touch, now baby I believe

This is real, so take a chance

And don't ever look back, don't ever look back

We were now looking at each other, enjoying each other's company and I felt this was the most honest we had been to each other in ages because we meant the words we were singing.

We drove to Cali and got drunk on the beach

Got a motel and built a fort out of sheets

I finally found you, my missing puzzle piece

I'm complete

Let's go all the way tonight
