(I'm back after a lifetime with some Yatori fluff. Pic above was made by me using ClipStudioPaint)

She swayed slowly with the small child tucked in her grasp. Her long slender arms were wrapped loosely yet tightly around the infant.

The baby cooed and grinned and sputtered inaudible gibberish that she thought was adorable. I think she's doing amazing.

Dark strands of sepia colored hair curled around her porcelain face as she held the child close to her. She placed a kiss on his forehead before turning back.

"Did you hear what happened?" she asked me.

"Hmm?"

She sauntered closer to where I was sitting on the leather couch. She sat down beside me while feeding Kitoru.

"Yukine said Lionel and Sei redeemed a Phantom,"

"Really?" I said dubiously without looking away from the paper I was reading.

She smirked and lightly bounced our son. He gurgled and giggled from the gesture.

I smiled at him and went back to reading.

"He also mentioned how Sei's got a thing for him."

"Interesting," I murmured.

Yori rolled her eyes.

"At least pretend to be interested."

"Hey! All have you know I'm going over important paperwork for the Summon next month."

"Oh really?"

In one swift movement, the three pages of freshly printed papers were snatched from my hands. One of her arms was cradling Kitoru while the other was carelessly separating the pages.

"This is... pretty boring," she said disappointed.

She dropped the packet down onto the leather cushions and stood up. Yori turned the corner into the hallway and walked away.

"Did I do something?" I called out.

"No," she lied. "I'm just swapping the babies."

I groaned in obvious frustration as I reached across the furniture for the papers. Once I had them together in the right order, I scanned the paragraphs flooding the pages.

Yori returned from the nursery with Ajisai. She was hidden behind a layer of blankets that Yori insisted she be held in. She swaddled the baby up in cloth and held her close like she did with Kitoru.

I relaxed upon the couches when she re-seated herself next to me. Ajisai was gripping Yori tight as she nursed. Yori leaned over and pressed her forehead against my shoulder.

"What do we do?" she whispered.

"What do you mean?"

Her magenta eyes lifted to stare into my own. For a moment it's like everything stopped. It seemed like it was just us and Ajisai in our living room listening to the cold rain dripping down the shrine.

Yori looked again with that desperate plea gleaming in her irises. I don't know how to respond to that. There's one thing about human affairs I'll never fully come to terms with.

I thank Ajisai's loud burp for interrupting the silence. She certainly knows how to break the ice in a dying conversation.

"Hold her for a second, okay?" she asked me.

I set the papers on the coffee table and held my hands out for my daughter. Once she was set in my arms securely, Yori took off down the hall to follow the crescendo of whining from the nursery.
