Comfy Cotton

He was comfy cotton
Cozy and a good friend
Someone you could count on
But who'd be there for him?
He's built walls of thorns
And asks as if he's alright
The deception of comfy cotton
The reason I call him that
He wants you to feel safe and alright
But with himself,
It's like he'd rather die
We've tried to pick this cotton apart
To understand him more
But the thorns are too sharp,
Too thick
And I can't reach
So please snip your thorns
And let us finally speak
But comfy cotton likes to cushion others
Not the other way around
So we're all bringing something
To try and help you out
But your throns grow stronger
With every little snip we try
Yet tonight we saw each other
For the stems we both have contain throns
And we stopped
Breathed
And talked
For a moment you let me clip your thorns
And I let you see all of mine
So we talked until the sun came up
Seeing each other's real side
But nothing ever felt so nice
To see that comfy cotton
Can tear off his thorns
For us to look inside
