Chapter 14

Yunlan spent the night eating at his cousin's house. He didn't really want to go, but they were his only family.

"Is it true you're dating professor Shen?"

Mei's sudden question nearly caused him to choke on his beer.

What the... Yunlan thought she wasn't allowed to talk about that at home! But Mei went on.

"Has he talked about me? He told me I'm doing good, what did he tell you?"

Yunlan saw Jun stiffen.

He was ready for another one of his 'stop fooling around and start building a family" remarks; Jun had never accepted that Yunlan didn't want the same things he wanted.

Although Yunlan liked children and had loved Mei since the day she was born, he didn't want children of his own and most certainly didn't want a wife, he wasn't 'fooling around' but living his life the way he liked it, he didn't need to grow up and start thinking of his future, he already knew what he wanted.

He had a job and a hot man that he liked, and after such a nice date the night before he didn't wish for his cousin to ruin it for him.

He braced himself looking anywhere but at him, but before Jun could say anything ChinChin hurried over speaking in a loud voice.

"Jun dear, did you hear? Mei's teacher complimented her, isn't it wonderful? And Mei's teacher is such a gentleman, he told me Mei needs to work hard, your daughter's teacher really cares about his student you know, isn't it wonderful that our Yunlan has such a respectable friend? And I'm sure your daughter's teacher will only have good words for our Yunlan's lovely niece, don't you think?"

Between her words and her tight grip at the back of his neck, the expectant look on Mei's face and the eyes of both his women firmly on him, Jun swallowed his remarks and simply said, "Yeah."

Yunlan raised his eyes and looked at them. 'That's it?' he thought, then he smiled, laughing inwardly.

Wei's words clearly had quite an impact on ChinChin, and he guessed that he will be spared Jun's remarks for Mei's whole university life.

He didn't know what would happen after that, but it was still very far away, so he chose to enjoy the temporary peace and let things be...

...that was before he looked at Jun and remembered all his past remarks and decided to have a little fun.

He nodded, answering Mei's first question.

"We went on a date last night," he said.

Mei's eyes widened and ChinChin's grip on Jun's neck tightened.

Yunlan smirked and continued.

"And yes, he talked about you, only good words of course."

Mei's smile beamed and Yunlan added, "You need to work hard, I want him to know how smart you are, and if you need help I'm sure he will be more than willing, he was trying so hard to impress me he wouldn't deny my favourite niece a little help."

Mei screamed and her mother joined her, launching herself in yet another speech about their daughter's teacher and how lucky they were that he had chosen their Yunlan...

Jun didn't say anything. He knew he had lost.

Yunlan had a tremendous time that night.

When he got home, he noticed that his place felt different. He saw that everything was shiny, nothing was left out of place, the dishes were all clean, his clothes neatly folded.
