18. Flashback - Once Bitten...

This morning Kagami finally got out from the game room, looks of depression still stains her face. The others were worried of what would happen later on if this continues.

"That Touko girl said that food is getting scarce... What should I do...?"

Also, Touko came to the game room to give Kagami info about the insufficient food supplies. She became worried if they'd starve if they stay here even longer.

Patty just wept away at her room, not leaving for any reason. The loss of Konata took a heavy toll on her, but Hiyori Tamura comforts her in every chance she got.

She also lied about Misao Kusakabe, who she said is reading through books at the library. Instead she is just staring at a wall blankly.

It turned out that her best friend, Ayano Minegishi, the stereotypical 'Yamato Nadeshiko' of the Lucky Star Crew had died when they were still on the road.

Ayano got bit by a zombie in her midsection, and after Misao noticed it,  she began to panic.

- Flashback, Roadside camp

"Ayano... The blood on your uniform's fresh."

"Oh, this? I got them on my clothes, I just killed one recently--"

"Why is that shaped like a bite mark?"

"I... I can explain-"

"One of them bit Ayano!" Misao's eyes were now full of tears.

The group heard her cries, and Sojiro snuck up from behind Ayano, before holding her in a Full Nelson lock, followed by Yui flipping her uniform's shirt, to reveal a bite mark near her left hip.

"I'm OK, guys... I'm OK..." Ayano breathed out the words as if she was suffocating.

"What are we supposed to do?!" Hiyori asked.

"We kill her. We can't let an infected amongst us!" Tadao (Kagami's father) shouted out.

"Wait, don't kill me-"

"Stop it people! We don't kill the living. Lock her up inside the bus, and I'll figure out what should we do with her!" Kuroi Sensei instructed.

The rest of the group, including Patty, Yutaka, Minami, Miki (Kagami's mother), Yukari (Miyuki's mother), the other 2 Hiiragi sisters and Yui were speechless. They didn't know what to do.

After a few moments, Sojiro released Ayano from the hold, and Misao quickly hugged her.

"I'm OK, Misao... I told you. I just need some rest, that's all!"

"But... The bite?"

"Let's not talk about that for a moment, OK?"

Ayano walked into the bus feverishly and sat down at the backmost seat, looking upwards.

Periodically Misao came to give her food and drinks, but after she gets them she just coughed a lot. Misao instinctively gets a bucket from the storage compartment of the bus because she's worried that Ayano's cough could spit out something.

3 hours later at approximately 12 PM, Misao came in to see Ayano breathing feverishly, and after touching their foreheads together to check her body heat, Misao widened her eyes, and signalled at the group to get a towel and some water.

2 hours later, however...

"Ayano, your fever's getting worse."

"Ah, is it?"

However she felt the urge to cough, and Misao quickly took the bucket close to her, who coughed and spat out blood... Black blood.

Misao then flipped her shirt upwards to see that Ayano's rotten veins are showing up from the bite.
