"RORY, ARE YOU READY to go yet?" Parker called from downstairs. "We have to leave, like, now!"
Aurora sighed as she looked at herself in the mirror. Her necklace was now many inches further up her chest, looking almost more like a choker than a necklace. Yesterday, she had stopped by the jewelry store and purchased a much smaller chain, so that the necklace would have a very hard time coming off of her accidentally. It was just barely peeking out above her maroon crewneck, and she hoped that today, it would stay on.
"Aurora, come on!" Parker yelled from downstairs. Aurora took one last look at herself in the mirror before hopping down the stairs. She was wearing a maroon crewneck, black jeans, and her white Doc Martens. She had in small studs and a few rings. Sexy girl, Aurora thought to herself.
"Good morning," Aurora smiled when she arrived downstairs. Parker gave Aurora a stressed smile back.
"Good morning, let's go," Parker gestured towards the door. Aurora laughed and followed her aunt out of the door of the house. They opened their umbrellas and dashed outside, unsuccessfully trying to avoid the heavy rain. It was almost hard to see since there was so much rain.
"Are you excited for senior year?" Parker asked as she started the engine. Aurora wiped off a sheen of rainwater off of her face and buckled her seatbelt.
"Yeah, I guess. I can't believe it's all almost over, though." She still had no idea what she would be doing after high school. It scared her.
"High school definitely goes by fast," Parker agreed. They were silent for the rest of the ride until Parker pulled into the parking lot. "Well, I hope you have fun!"
"Thanks," Aurora said, picking up her umbrella from her lap. It was still pouring rain. There was a mist coming up from the ground from the rain splattering hard against the pavement.
"Hey, I love you," Parker said, reaching out and stopping Aurora from leaving the car.
Aurora looked back at her aunt and smiled. "I love you too."
"So, you'd tell me when something was wrong, right?" Parker asked, her brows furrowing. "I'm just asking because all last night and this morning you've been acting weird."
"I'm just stressed, is all," Aurora lied. "But thanks for asking." She reached over and hugged Parker before leaving the car and hurrying inside.
As soon as she entered the school, Aurora saw Ethan and Liam by Liam's locker. She waved and headed towards them, looking down at the ground as she shook out her umbrella. A pair of shoes cane into her vision a split second before she collided into someone. Aurora looked up and saw Jasper and immediately flinched away from him. She raised her umbrella in front of her in self defense.
"Aurora, may we speak with you?" Jasper asked, his southern drawl apparent. He seemed stressed; worry lines were etched across his face.
"We?" Aurora asked. Jasper tilted his head to the front and Aurora looked behind her. Outside in the rain stood Emmett and Edward by Edward's shiny Volvo.
"My brothers and I would like to apologize," Jasper stated when Aurora looked back at him. Aurora looked behind him at Ethan and Liam, who were silently watching Aurora and Jasper. Their expressions were unreadable.
"You have five minutes," Aurora said firmly, looking back up at Jasper. "Starting thirty seconds ago."
"Thank you."
The two went back outside in the rain, Jasper holding the umbrella above Aurora's head for her. When they arrived, Aurora's heart started pounding faster. She hadn't forgotten the terror she had felt the day before. She hadn't forgotten the looks on their faces as they stared at her in bloodlust. She hadn't forgotten Jasper muttering to himself that she was going to die.
