Thirty Six - Call it what you want

Renesmee approached Jacob, keen to have a chance to greet him out of the way of Harriet. As she got closer to him her heart started fluttering excitedly, she was glad of the music in the background to cover it over. She smiled massively at him and he beamed back at her.

"Damn, I have to tell you," she said, leaning in and giving him a huge hug, "you look hot as hell.'' She pulled back from him, kissing him on the cheek in the process. She noticed them glowing slightly, "I should get Alice to dress you more often."

He looked a little taken aback, but nevertheless, pleased at the compliment.

He took her hand and spun her around slowly, taking in her appearance.

"Well look at you," he said, "so this is the result of getting ready in a very short space of time?" He stopped her after she completed one full spin. "You'll have no excuse for taking a few hours to get ready in future, as you look utterly flawless." 

Her cheeks glowed this time and her stomach was doing cartwheels at his words.

"Come on, you best say hello to the Birthday girl," Renesmee said, pulling Jacob's hand, heading towards Harriet and the others.

Once there she let go of him and made herself scarce before she could get wound up by Harriet.

She noticed Rachel looking pleased at her and tried to prevent herself from returning a massive grin suppressed under the surface.

She headed to join in the conversation at the far end of the kitchen where Catlin, Tarek, Quil, Embry, Seth, Ethan and his mates were all stood.

Tarek was in the process of showing them his party trick. He had a walnut in the crook of his neck, he moved his head quickly to the side, there was a crack and he removed a broken walnut shell, which was met with cheers and applause.

"How on earth did you find out you could crack a nut with your neck?" Catlin asked him.

"During the misspent hours I should have been using to study, it's amazing the amount of things you can find to do when you're trying to avoid work!" He replied. "Everyone has their party trick, that's mine, what's everyone else's?"

Oh dear, Renesmee thought, he was inevitably opening up a can of worms, as unbeknown to him four people out of this small group secretly possessed supernatural abilities. What would everyone choose and could they successfully downplay their talents to avoid any suspicion?

At this point, Leah came to join them, she looked stunning in a strappy silver dress, which Renesmee assumed Alice had chosen to match closest to her wolf colour. It was a distressed dress, which had a torn and frayed appearance. Although the closer she looked, the more she started thinking it wasn't designed that way. One of her straps had broken and was tied back on, there were also several slits up the sides of her dress with frayed edges. Had she been in some sort of scrap before coming in here? Seth muttered to her quietly and asked where she went and if she was ok, so it looked like she'd been part of this group previously and left. Leah told Seth she was fine, but Renesmee noticed a crease on her forehead and slightly worried look in her eyes.

Quil was currently showing off his party trick, opting for strength, he grabbed the empty coke can in front of him and quickly crushed it between his hands until it was completely flat, flatter than if he'd used a can crusher. All of the others howled in appreciation.

"That's awesome, you're a human can crusher!" Ethan said, then picked up a can himself and attempted to crush it, but ended up just hurting his hand, he seemed even more impressed with Quil afterwards.

Ethan was the next to step up.

"I've got a photographic memory," he said.

"No way! I never knew that," Renesmee said impressed, "we've got to test you on this!" She was already stood next to him and so reached her hands around to cover his eyes, she locked her fingers in tight so there was no way he'd be able to see anything.
