I showered at the campus gym while Luna went back to the dorms to grab me some clothes. I couldn't go back there yet. I didn't know how to face him. Until I sorted my thoughts, I had to give myself some space from Arrow.
My thoughts permeated the entire locker room, they were so powerful. I'm not even sure I really washed my hair.
Arrow didn't even know for himself if I had a chance, so what was I supposed to do? Just let him go? Or keep trying? All the books and movies said love was worth the effort. Was I supposed to try a little bit longer? Love a little harder? How hard were you supposed to fight for love? Love took sacrifice, so what did I have to sacrifice for Arrow to love me?
Luna returned before things got too bad. I heard her outside the curtain.
"Here, Frannie love."
I shut off the water. When I peered around the curtain, I gasped.
"Luna! I'm not wearing that."
Her brow furrowed and she looked at the shirt she held up. "What the hell Frannie? These are your clothes."
"Yeah, but..." I studied the two items of clothing: a pair of faded black ripped jeans and a plain red tank top with black lace at the seams. It was basic enough, sure. And yes, they were my clothes. Red was my favorite color. But, "I'm heartbroken right now. That's not gonna make me feel invisible and closed off."
"Okay, well what's gonna make you feel invisible and closed off?"
"Sweatpants and a hoodie. I'll wear the tank, though."
"It's ninety degrees outside. You're wearing what I got you, I'm not going back. Besides, you need a bit of a confidence boost. Be grateful I didn't choose something I'd wear. Now hurry up and change."
I sighed but took the clothes and yanked the curtain shut.
I didn't have the slightest idea who Luna was having me meet, but I hoped it wasn't another guy. I couldn't handle any more. And my loyalties were still with Arrow; I wasn't done with him yet. He was a project unfinished.
After I changed and ran my fingers through my hair (didn't have a brush) enough so it wouldn't tangle, I met Luna outside the locker room. I found her sitting on the bench press scrolling through her phone, cheek in her hand. Her lilac purple hair was now in two cute, short braids that barely reached her shoulders.
"So where's this friend of yours?"
She glanced up at me and studied my hip-hugging jeans and tight shirt. "Cute, mamasíta." She stood and tucked her phone in her back pocket. "You're a fucking goddess, Frannie. These boys just don't know one when they see her."
Arrow did. He said I was light. He just wasn't interested in my love.
"You ladies here to work out? Orrrr..."
I turned towards the male voice.
A tall guy in a black muscle shirt and a headband looked between Luna and I, partially skeptical but partially curious. His fair skin glistened with sweat, blond hair damp and shaggy. Those muscles were...wow. He was built, I'd give him that. Was this Luna's mystery friend?
"We're just about to leave." Luna crossed her arms.
"Ah, I see, you came to sit and look pretty? Hoping some lucky bastard gets one of your numbers? I gotta say, you ladies got some nice bodies...genetics or gym?" He leaned up against one of the beams of the bench press, his eyes trailing down Luna's chest, her torso, her thighs...
"PSA, I'm here five days a week and lift before the sun's even up, ain't nobody deserve my number."
"You sure? I could help you work on your form. Teach you a few things..."
