You had to be a special type of parasite for no host to accept you. And parasites aimed to inflict damage and pain; my only goal was to love. But to Ethan and Arrow, I was a green-eyed amoeba.

I sat in the far back of Anatomy and swiped through my phone, chin in my free hand, as people filed into the room. My hood almost covered my whole face since I tightened the strings beneath my chin to block out the rest of the world and hide my earphones as Juice WRLD sang, "I just want real love, guess it's been a minute."

All day in each class, I kept my eyes trained on my phone and now I felt a headache starting behind my eyeballs. Hopefully it'd get bad enough to damage the parts of my brain responsible for feeling emotion.

Someone tapped my arm gently, then a little harder, and when I still didn't respond, they reached up and yanked out one of my earphones.

I kept my eyes on my phone.

"Uh oh," Isaac said on my left, setting my earphone gently between my arms. "I know that look, it's the 'things-didn't-go-my-way-so-now-I'm-a-pouty-five-year-old-again' look."

"Eff. You." I said flatly, still swiping on my phone.

"Are you spelling out the word 'fuck?' That's kinda cute." Isaac pulled out the chair next to me and sat down When he sat down, I caught a whiff of a new cologne on him.

Oh, God. My head throbbed worse from the strength of it. I put up a hand. "Please, give me at least eight inches. And no, I am 'effing you' not spelling it out. That sounds worse. Whatever, I'm anti-socializing right now."

"Eight inches? I mean, I could probably get there if you help me out."

I finally looked up so I could narrow my eyes at him.

"Kidding. You good?"

"You haven't seen the video?"

"Video?"

"Yeah. It's probably gone viral by now."

"Oh no, you didn't release a sex tape, did you? You wanted a memory of your first time that bad?"

"Oh my God, get your mind outta the gutter. If I did, I wouldn't show you-at least not in class right now." I scrolled through my camera roll until I found the video from Tyrell. Once I did, I passed Isaac the earphone he removed and leaned closer till our arms touched. He took the ear bud and watched with me.

The ocean, that's what he smelled like. Isaac's cologne smelled like the ocean. He sprayed a bit much, but now that I was closer, I realized it wasn't that bad.

I watched his face and waited for an expression. All I got was some head bobbing to the music.

When the video ended, he passed back my ear bud and looked at me. "Wow. You've got some spice in you."

"You can say I suck, it's fine."

"No, it's pretty badass. Maybe the voice could use some work, but you've got the moves. Your hips definitely don't lie." He smirked and his eyes dropped down to my waist, though this green hoodie from him was a size too big.

Wait...what did Isaac just say?

Professor Porter walked in to set up his materials, so Isaac straightened and pulled out his laptop. He was probably the only person who cared about presentation when a professor was around.

"It was for Arrow," I explained. "Mission eight: express love through music."

"You did that just for him?"

I nodded.

"And?"

"He hated it."

He stayed quiet. Professor Porter started talking, so I returned to swiping on my phone, though I took my other ear bud out. But what did it matter anymore? No matter how much I learned, nothing ever changed.
