This chapter is going to be told in a flashback, and then present-day (non-flashback) in the perspective of Scarlet, daughter of Jimmy Page and the French model Charlotte Martin. In this chapter / fanfiction, Scarlet is 4 years old. The flashback part is italicized, and the present-day part is not italicized (normal font). This chapter takes place at Jimmy's home in Pangbourne.
Scarlet missed Jimmy. It had been about a month since she and her mother, Charlotte, had last seen him. Scarlet didn't understand why her father had to have been gone for so long. It seemed incomprehensible to her. She had asked Charlotte why Jimmy was gone, and Charlotte just replied that Jimmy had went somewhere. Charlotte said that Scarlet was too young to understand, and that didn't really help. Every day, Scarlet would wait for Jimmy to come home. She would look out the window, only to see no sign of Jimmy. Charlotte had called Jimmy, but there didn't seem to be any answers. Scarlet worried that something had perhaps happened to him, but Charlotte always reassured her that nothing was wrong.
Today, Scarlet finally headed out of her room after staying there for a couple of hours. She saw Charlotte brewing some tea. Charlotte turned around, smiling warmly when she saw Scarlet. "Look who's finally out of her room!" She said. "How are you feeling?" Scarlet went over to the table and climbed up to sit on one of the chairs. "I still miss daddy." She replied, resting her head on her arms. Charlotte sighed. "I know, sweetie." She said. "He'll hopefully be home soon, though. As far as I know, he's a busy man." Scarlet glanced at the door, hoping to see it open, and hoping to see Jimmy. To her dismay, nothing happened. Scarlet didn't know how she had managed to survive a month without her father. If Charlotte wasn't around, maybe she would've never managed to feel some happiness while Jimmy was gone. Scarlet watched as Charlotte poured some tea into a teacup, and went to sit at the table with Scarlet. Charlotte took a sip of the tea, and looked at Scarlet. "Hey, cheer up." She said, smiling. Scarlet looked up. "Why?" She asked, feeling hopeless. "Daddy might be home today." Charlotte said. Scarlet perked up, and a smile spread across her face. "Really?" She asked. Charlotte shrugged. "I'm not exactly sure, though." She said. "He could easily show up today, though."
Scarlet only felt confused, and she didn't feel happy anymore. She wondered if this was an attempt to make her feel better. After all, Charlotte didn't really know when Jimmy would ever return. Scarlet looked at the door behind her again.
Nothing.
Just then, Scarlet heard a noise. She whipped her head around, and noticed the sound had come from the door. Instantly, Scarlet began to feel excited. Moments later, the door opened, and Jimmy appeared, heading inside the house. He put his suitcase and guitar case away. Once he was done, Scarlet excitedly got down from the chair and ran towards Jimmy. "Daddy daddy daddy daddy daddy daddy!" She exclaimed. Scarlet began to jump up and down. Jimmy turned around and smiled, picking up Scarlet. "Hey, kiddo!" He said. Charlotte broke out into a smile. "She really missed you." She said. Jimmy put Scarlet back down and went to give Charlotte a kiss on the cheek. "I missed both of you." He said. "I bet it feels great to be home again." Charlotte said. Jimmy laughed shortly. "No kidding."
Scarlet, meanwhile, was tugging on Jimmy's jacket. "Daddy daddy daddy daddy!" She exclaimed. Jimmy went over to the couch and sat down. That didn't seem to stop Scarlet, and she hurried after him. "Can you read me a story?" Scarlet asked. "Daddy's tired." Jimmy responded, sighing. Scarlet frowned. "Please?" She asked. "Can I at least watch some telly with you?" Jimmy smiled. "Sure." He said. Scarlet climbed up on the couch, and watched as Jimmy turned the TV on and switched to a channel that had Little House on the Prairie playing. It was one of Scarlet's favorite shows. "Yay! I love this show!" Scarlet said cheerfully. Charlotte headed over to Jimmy with a teacup in her hand. "I made some tea." She said, giving the teacup to Jimmy. "Thanks." Jimmy said, smiling. Scarlet looked up at Charlotte pleadingly. "Can daddy take me outside?" She asked. Charlotte sighed. "He's been gone for a while." She answered. "He probably needs rest." Charlotte looked at Jimmy, as if to make sure she was right. Jimmy nodded. "Exactly." He said, looking at Scarlet. "Maybe tomorrow, though." Scarlet sighed. "Fine." She muttered. Charlotte went over to Scarlet and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, at least he's home." She said. "Better than not being here at all, right?" Scarlet slowly nodded. Charlotte did have a point. She did feel happy to know that Jimmy was finally home, but she wished it could stay like that forever.
~~~
Once again, Jimmy was gone.
To Scarlet, that meant another period of feeling sad, and wondering when he would be back home. The only good news to her was that Jimmy hadn't been gone for that long, but Scarlet had a feeling that it would be the same as last time, when Jimmy was gone for a month. Scarlet remembered feeling happy and excited when he had returned, but it wasn't that long before Jimmy had to leave again. Scarlet had asked Charlotte where Jimmy had gone this time, but once again, Charlotte had been vague, saying that Jimmy had to go to some other place. Scarlet had wished that she knew what place Jimmy had went to, and if she did, maybe she wouldn't feel as upset and confused. Scarlet had remembered the one time Jimmy had taken her somewhere with him, but she didn't exactly know where. Scarlet remembered a photo being taken of her, Jimmy, and a guy who Jimmy called "Bonzo". Jimmy had kept the photo somewhere in the house, and Scarlet would look at it sometimes. She wished that Jimmy could do what he did that one time, and take her wherever he went.
Scarlet was doing the usual thing she did when Jimmy wasn't home, and that was looking out one of the windows. Once again, there was no sign of him. Charlotte would tell Scarlet to stop staring out the window, telling her that it wouldn't help. Scarlet didn't pay attention to what her mother said, though, and would only look out the window whenever she had the chance to. She would only look out the window for a few minutes, until she was able to convince herself that Jimmy still wasn't coming home.
Scarlet sighed, and she felt tears forming in her eyes. She turned around, and saw Charlotte sitting in a chair, reading a book. Scarlet went over to her, climbing up on the chair to sit next to her. "Why does daddy have to be gone so much?" She asked. "It's not fair!" Charlotte put her book down and sighed. "He has a busy life." She said. "He can't be home all the time, sadly." Scarlet frowned. "I wish he could take me with him." She said. Charlotte smiled warmly. "So do I." She said. "Maybe one day he can take us both somewhere." Scarlet got off of the chair and went back to the window.
"He's probably happy."
Scarlet turned around to look at Charlotte. "Why would he be happy?" She asked. "Doesn't he miss us? Wouldn't he be sad?" Charlotte looked back down at her book. "He's probably having the time of his life." She explained. "He has lots of friends, and he probably has fun doing what he does." Scarlet looked back at the window, and she tried to imagine what her father was doing. "If he's happy, that should make you feel better." Charlotte said. "Nothing bad is happening to him, so you shouldn't worry." Scarlet only began to feel sad again.
So he probably doesn't miss us.
This is the first time I completed a chapter of LLM pretty quickly. I feel bad for Scarlet and Charlotte in this chapter :(
Jimmy's definitely having the time of his life right now. By the way, that involves being high as shit.
