"Well, what's your story?"
Hailey tried to regather her courage after Charlotte's question. "I was the result of a teenage pregnancy." Hailey started. "My mom and my dad got together in high school, and after an incident at a party when they both ended up getting drunk and decided to...um...fool around without birth control, I ended up being born."
Charlotte slowly nodded, encouraging Hailey to continue.
"My father didn't really show any interest in being a father when I was born." Hailey continued. "He regretted the choice he made, and decided to not be in me and my mother's life anymore. When he did visit with my mom's permission, he didn't interact with me much. It was like he hated me. When he did interact with me, it wasn't...friendly. It didn't get any better as I grew up, though. I had to stay with him for a period of time when I was twelve, and he would boss me around. If I didn't do what he wanted or if I didn't do something correctly, then, things would end up getting physical. My mom heard about what was going on and took me to live with her again when I was thirteen."
Charlotte had an empathetic look on her face. "I'm so sorry to hear that." She said. "That must've been terrible for you."
Hailey nodded. "Yea, it wasn't a pleasant experience." She said.
Hailey noticed a thoughtful expression then take over Charlotte. She looked at Hailey with a curious expression on her face.
"How long have you and Jimmy been friends? You two must be good friends if he was willing to bring you here."
Hailey began to feel shy and nervous at Charlotte's question. She doesn't sound jealous. Hailey thought. I should be fine answering this question.
"We haven't been friends for that long." Hailey asked. "We recently met. It was at a Led Zeppelin concert in Sacramento."
Charlotte slowly nodded. To Hailey's relief, she still didn't seem suspicious, but Hailey couldn't help but wonder if Charlotte was actually a little jealous and was hiding it well.
"A concert?" Charlotte repeated. "Interesting. I assume he was the one who started this friendship."
Hailey nodded. "He told me he used to be shy." She said. "Not anymore, though."
Charlotte chuckled. "He was a shy person when we first met." She explained. "I've watched him go from a shy person to no longer a shy person. I've seen it. Back when we first met, he was quite shy and very innocent, and the kindest soul. He's still a kind person, but he's definitely lost that innocence he once had. You can consider him somewhat...wild now."
Hailey felt her jealousy returning to her when Charlotte started doing the "when we first met" stuff again. "I suppose that's what happens when you're a rockstar." She said, laughing, a bit forcefully.
Charlotte nodded and giggled. "Yea, probably." She agreed. "It hasn't affected our relationship, though. I don't see that happening, anyway."
Hailey tried to smile. "You two seem like you have a great relationship, so I hope it stays that way." She said.
Charlotte smiled. "I hope it stays that way too." She said, and then she raised an eyebrow, her smile staying. "Most of the time, Jimmy usually doesn't have an actual friend who's a girl. It usually happens to be a girlfriend." Charlotte said. "Are you sure you two are just...'friends'?"
Hailey began to feel nervous again. "Yes, I promise." She said. "I don't know why Jimmy would end up hooking up with another girl when he already has you. It doesn't seem like he has any other girlfriends at the moment."
Hailey looked up at the sky and saw it was starting to get dark. "We should probably go back inside." She suggested.
"Good idea." Charlotte said. "Besides, you must be tired. That plane ride must have been long and tiring!"
