Chapter 10
"You've narrowed it down to Beacon Hills High School but how are we supposed to find the water nymph here?" Mason Hewitt was curious. He was eager to help but he did not know where to start and how they would be able to locate the water nymph who was apparently a student in the same school as them. "We can't exactly just tell everyone that there's a competition in the pool and the one who transforms into a mermaid, wins the prize,"
"Find a beautiful girl who seems odd. I don't know how but you have dealt with things like this before, you will get a feeling if someone's supernatural," Alayna ordered like an alpha. There was something about Alayna that made her fit to be a leader. Maybe having Deucalion as a father had rubbed off of her.
Alayna, Liam, and Mason were in the library. The three of them were thinking of ways on how they were going to catch the water nymph who killed the male sophomore.
"A feeling? Yeah, right," Liam Dunbar scoffed. "What if it's someone like you who can hide her presence well?" Liam never had anything personal against Alayna. He just felt that his pride as Scott's beta was shattered when he was not able to distinguish that Alayna was a supernatural creature like them.
They thought that the chase had now been easier because they have narrowed it down to Beacon Hills High School. Unfortunately, they were wrong about that. How would they be able to track a creature without a scent?
"Wait..." Alayna almost stood up when she had realized something important. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and typed quickly.
"What are you doing? We—"
"Shut up, Liam. I'm sending a group message to Scott and Stiles,"
This time, it was Mason's turn to ask why Alayna was acting weird. "So...what are you texting them that's so important? Did you find a solution to our problem?"
"Yes," Alayna exclaimed and it took Mason and Liam by surprise. She hit 'sent' before turning back her attention on them. "I know how to track one. I know how to catch a water nymph," Alayna noticed that for someone who was claiming to kill one of the members of Scott's pack, she was getting way into catching a water nymph and helping them. Who could blame her? It was the first time that Alayna got involved in saving Beacon Hills because she was always with the Alpha pack before. During the time that she was with her father's pack, she was always in the sidelines.
This was the first time that she was engaged in the real action.
Alayna convinced herself that it was alright to be enthusiastic about this for now as long as her goal in mind would not falter later on.
"How?" Liam was agitated to hear the answer. He looked at his bestfriend and saw that Mason mirrored his expression.
"This is work for the two of us, Liam..." Alayna mentally grinned. She did not want Liam and Mason to know that she was enjoying this. "...we're going to sniff out someone without a scent."

"There are too many girls studying here and there's only two of us," Liam panted as he and Alayna were walking their way outside of the school. He remembered how bizarre he might have looked when he started talking to girls he did not know. Liam and Alayna were determined to locate a student without a scent. So far, they had only sniffed all of the seniors.
"We need help from Scott or Malia," Alayna found herself agreeing. The task was tougher for Alayna. She was the girl who got bullied then decided to beat up two juniors. The student body was terrified of her that they wanted to avoid her if they could. Unluckily for them, Alayna could be quite pushy.
The two of them noticed the green-eyed deputy, Jordan Parrish, leaning his back on his car. "What are you doing here, Parrish?" Liam questioned. "Did they find a body here?"
"No. I'm here for Alayna," Jordan responded.
"Oh...then I'll take this as my cue to go," Liam waved goodbye to the two. He was not dumb not to figure out that Parrish wanted to talk to Alayna alone. Looking at the two of them made him miss his ex-girlfriend, Hayden Romero, so much. God knew how he wanted Hayden to be here.
"What do you want?" Alayna was curious of what the deputy wanted from her.
"I remembered that we were supposed to go out for coffee last Saturday and it got postponed. I figured that this is a great time to continue that," Jordan said the words out loud that he had rehearsed plenty of times in his head.
"Coffee? You mean now?"
"I was thinking of upgrading it to dinner. What do you think?" Jordan's tone of voice was hopeful. Jordan realized after his date with Victoria that he rather would have had spent time with Alayna. Sure, Victoria was beautiful and had a sense of humor...but there was something different about Alayna that he could not figure out. It might be wrong in the eyes of many but he did not care. He had already admitted to himself, in front of his mirror, that he liked the high school senior. Also, Jordan was just a few years older than Alayna. The age gap was not a problem since Alayna was not a minor anymore. "It will be my treat,"
Alayna wanted to remark that she could pay her own bills since Deucalion had left her with a huge amount of money, but she managed to stop herself from doing so. "I would love to have free dinner...but I don't think that Victoria would feel the same way," Alayna remembered the name of the woman that was with Jordan the other night. For some reason, she could not get the woman out of her mind.
"There's nothing going on between me and Victoria. She just asked me out for one nigh—I don't really know why I'm explaining myself but I hope this clears it up. So, what do you think about dinner?" Jordan laughed awkwardly. He wanted to set himself on fire for acting so odd in front of Alayna. Sad to say that he could not do that, not when he was a Hellhound himself.
