Kalene woke up and groaned. Today was the day she was set to go back to court. They flew into Dallas the previous evening and drove to Hunt County where the court hearing was being held. They found a hotel and got rooms. Although she wasn't looking forward to stepping back into a courtroom, she was hoping to get this over with and put Ted back in her past where he belonged. 'Hopefully the little bastard will stay there this time!' she thought as she moved to take a quick shower.

She was digging around to find something suitable to wear for court when she felt a pair of strong arms slide around her waist. Grinning, she turned around to look at her fiancé.

"The waves of life, right?" She asked.

"The waves of life, baby! Always. Get ready and we'll go find some breakfast." He kissed her forehead.

"I love you, Tim." She blurted out, "I want you to know that. More than I ever thought it was possible to love someone you didn't birth."

"I love you too, baby. It's not going to happen again. Don't worry." He pulled her back into his arms for a passionate kiss.

She relished kissing him. Not only was a fabulous kisser, it did something to her. She felt free, she felt safe, she felt...she wasn't even sure there was a name for the feeling. Whatever it was, she liked it. She finally picked an outfit and then did her make-up.

"Morning, guys! Let's go grab some breakfast then we'll head over to the courthouse

"Morning, guys! Let's go grab some breakfast then we'll head over to the courthouse. IHOP sound good?" Luke asked.

"Good enough for me." Kalene retorted.

"Don't worry, we have this." Tim grabbed her hand.

"Our lawyers assure me this is a slam-dunk. He has no grounds for custody since she's 18 and he started this after her 18th birthday. You did let him know that you were pregnant, right?" Luke asked as he followed the GPS.

"Of course, I did! He said he didn't believe I was actually pregnant back then. I was a wild child as I said. Did a lot of stupid things, made a lot of really dumb decisions. But I was never a slut. That was one thing I never did was sleep around despite what he thinks." Kalene huffed.

"It's ok, baby. We believe you." Tim gave her hand a squeeze.

"I just...once I found out I was pregnant, I tried to distance myself from all that. I grew up real fast, ya know. I didn't want to bring my child into the dumb things I was doing. I didn't want her being around the idiots I was hanging around. All the partying I was doing every weekend. My child deserved a better life than that." Kalene stared out the window, "I tried to give her that. It's why I did everything I could to encourage her dreams and aspirations. It's why I let her sub for bands when she was nine years old and drove all over Texas, literally, so she could sub for them."

"You're a great mom, Kalene. That dedication to your child is paying off. Look at where she's at now! She may not be where she is now if it weren't for you doing what you did to get away from the people you called friends back then." Luke explained as he parked the car.
